House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said that the individual health insurance mandates included in every health reform bill, which require Americans to have insurance, were “like paying taxes.” He added that Congress has “broad authority” to force Americans to purchase other things as well, so long as it was trying to promote “the general welfare.”

Aside from the fact that he's full of bull, I hope all you Obamacare supporters out there are paying attention. If you get your way, all Americans will be forced to buy health insurance, whether they want it or not. You may like that plan because it means that everyone else is helping to pay your way, but keep in mind that this won't stop there. Mark my words: Congress will later on force you to buy something you don't want, and you won't be able to do a thing about it because you were silent now.

Obamacare isn't going to just force you to buy any health insurance. It's going to force you to buy health insurance of their choosing. Since any health care insurance option will have to meet certain government rules and regulations to qualify under the plan in essence any and all options will be the "government option" Once they have you enrolled in their health plan there will be no limits to what further rules they can impose on you in order for you to keep it. You may not be able to be turned down for being sick but you can sure be charged (taxed) more in premiums or even fined for not adhering to the government's rules for participation in the plan.
For right now it's looking to me like the best option if this plan passes is to pay the fine for not having any insurance at least until your really sick and need it. Then get some insurance. After all they can't refuse you for a pre-existing condition and if your put into a high risk group and charged more than you can afford for it as a result, oh well. You can always fall back on the so called status quo ... bankruptcy. |
