HOWTO. Writing to your Windows 2000/XP/NT
(NTFS formatted) from Linux.

Interested in using NTFS-FUSE to write to WINDOWS 2000/XP partitions (NTFS formatted).

Or alternatively, using Captive to write to WINDOWS 2000/XP partitions (NTFS formatted).

Then click here:

http://linux.coconia.net/

The site also provides guide to installing WINDOWS 2000/XP on a spare partition.

There is also code for JAVASCRIPT MOVIES (and a few to watch).

Also has a section on how to REMIX YOUR 14 Debian CDs as 2 DVDs.

And a guide to a Gentoo 2006 installation and even a script to walk you through a GENTOO 2005 INSTALLATION.

I have always just mad a separate partition for Linux. What you are asking for may not be the best way to go. NTFS partitions can be read from a Linux formated partition.

There are some tests at:

http://linux.coconia.net/general/ntfs-tests.htm

NTFS-FUSE turns out to be better.

not naturally, it has to be compiled in (yuck).

Linux older than 2.4 cannot. I'm not sure if 2.4 can or not.

Someone better let the people at Novell know about this. When I installed Suse 10.1 Beta 9 there was not a choice of using NTFS-FUSE.

No. For example SuSE 10.0 comes with read-only support but no
support for writing.

You're welcome. Note that all open source write solutions are only partial solutions.

The newest Linux kernel (2.6.16) has NTFS write support, but it is still experimental.

Yeah, it does not seem very good.

I just stumbled across this NTFS3g on the Gentoo Forums today! I haven't had much luck with captive and ntfs-fuse and the like - and have been using a fat32 partition to transfer between operating system. I'm probably going to stuff this in the machine tonight and see how it works.
