Good Advise.
But the clinker is..... there are very few "techs" that will work on those.
Getting parts is almost NOT going to happen.
Those companies like Gateway, buy those monitors from some manufacturer in CHINA and NO parts are provided Stateside.
I've just recently thrown away two real nice LCD monitors for the lack of a replacement for the Backlight Power Supply.
I got them from customers who had already replaced them with new monitors.
Back in the good ol' days, I had a good friend in Orlando that ran a refurbishing center for Gateway CRT type monitors. They were made either by Sony or Mag. He had all the tools to repair them.
But one day, several years ago, when his building burned down, he decided to get out of that business.
I've not heard of any Monitor Repair Center since then.
It appears that LCD monitors have gone the way of the kitchen appliance.
They are either NON-Repairable or just more cost effective to Replace.
But, with only one line stuck, you at least have the option to keep on using the monitor till it shoots craps all together. When you loose the backlight power supply, your options are somewhere between nil and zero.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend, Y'hear?
