Nice collection of FREEware on your server.
Looks like it could take a lot of time to keep updated.
Has anyone hammered it yet?
RE: Your list of "Extension Recommendations" must be an unrewarding effort.
Those who step up to FF are usually above the newbie/novice stage with PCs.
And knowledged users are a tough lot to please when it comes to their preferences.
Gary66 is a testament and so am I: I have ~3 dozen extensions in my FireFox and not ONE of those listed are in my list >> go figah! |

Hmm
I notice that this list has Adblock Plus matched with filterset.g so that means it must be related to the ordinary Adblock. What have I missed here? |

I must have tried a slew of these 'enhanced' explorers that many LG::Forums topics have covered over the years.
I still prefer the Classic View of the WindowsExplorer interface BUT without the zip-file shell integration and that stoopid %^& pooch! :whistling:
I think that the combination of the WinXP view + zip + pooch ===> loss of confidence in Search (Ctrl+F) functionality of the WindowsExplorer!
The following are three different versions of the same tweak for WindowsExplorer, in efforts to start taming it:
| Quote: |
1.1 Untreat ZIP Files as Folders (1)
*Zip files are NOT folders.
*WinXP treats Zip files like folders, to stop this type 'regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll' at the command prompt.
*To reverse it type 'regsvr32 zipfldr.dll'. Written By: David Campbell 11/4/2001
1.2 Untreat ZIP Files as Folders (2)
*Don't Show As Folders under Explorer
*You can disable XP's support using regsvr32, a tool that allows you to register or un-register object linking and embedding (OLE) controls.
*Follow these steps to disable this feature:
§ Select Run from the Start Menu.
§ Type "regsvr32 /u %windir%\system32\zipfldr.dll" at the prompt.
§ Click OK.
*The change will take effect immediately, but you may have to restart Windows for all traces of the built-in ZIP support to disappear.
*After restarting your system, your problem should be solved, but you may need to re-associate your unzipping program (WinZip, etc.) with the files before you can view and open them.
*If you want to re-enable WinXP's built-in ZIP support, just follow these steps:
§ Select Run from the Start Menu.
§ Type "regsvr32 %windir%\system32\zipfldr.dll" at the prompt.
§ Click OK.
*As with the previous example, the change will take effect immediately, but you may have to restart Windows for all features of the built-in ZIP support to be available.
*Download alternative zip/unzip program (e.g. PowerArchiver or WinZip) instead of using built-in zip shell integration.
1.3 Untreat ZIP Files as Folders (3)
*Disable Windows Search for Looking inside Zip Files
*The WinXP Search feature allows you to find the stuff that's lying around your hard disks. But those hard disk searches can get painfully slow if you have a lot of compressed archive files (like .zip and .cab files) lying around your disks.
*You can speed your searches by disabling this feature.
*Just open the Run command from the Start menu and type the following in the Open text box:
regsvr32 c:\winxp\\system32\zipfldr.dll /u
*Then do your Search.
*If you want to turn this feature back on again, just run the above command again, but without the "/u" switch. (08/21/02) |
Don't mess around with your registry, if you are easily offended or intimidated!
{YMMV}
The Classic View of the WindowsExplorer lacks many hi-end features that the alternatives attempt to provide; but I think I have my WindowsExplorer shell almost tamed to the way I like using a FileManager! |

UploadExpress 1.0.2 Build 41
Upload Express was designed to make uploading a file to a particular location easy!
Upload Express currently supports uploading to YouSendIt, ImageShack, and any FTP Server you desire.
Upload Express is a Windows Explorer plugin that sits in the context menu.
You can select a file, and then right click and Upload!
Full details and download link available HERE:
http://www.killcode.com/
The file can also be downloaded from:
http://mysharedfiles.no-ip.org/
The pictures in here where uploaded to ImageShack using this great new utility.
The way I have it set up, it saves the URL to the picture in the clipboard all you have to do
is insert it in the image prompt or, between [img][/img] code and your picture will be displayed.
Enjoy |

AutoStreamer
AutoPatcher's little brother, has finally gone final! At its current state,
AutoStreamer works as a slipstreamer-only. Basically, all it really needs is a source
(that being an original Windows CD or a local share) and a Service Pack file.
Screenshots:
Main screen, Using CD, Picking Service Pack file, Skiping slipstreaming, ISO options, Working!
Requirements
1. Windows 2000/XP/2003 (Windows 9x/Me won't do)
2. The latest (complete) version of AutoStreamer
3. Administrative privileges
4. A CD recorder and a blank CD
Supported Service Pack files:
- Windows 2000: SP3 onwards (meaning you can't select a SP1/SP2 file as a service pack)
- Windows XP: Any
- Windows 2003: Any
Running AutoStreamer
Here's an example of Windows XP SP2 slipstreaming by Powerless: Guide
Download:
AutoStreamer 1.0.33 (Installer) [844KB]
[b]Credits:
Brought to you by SteelTrepid and Raptor
I've provided a new and faster download link for the Installer.
Have fun |

I used AutoStreamer just last week to slipstream my XP disk with SP2. It worked as stated. Takes most of the thinking out of the process.
For file management, I use Windows Explorer. But I keep one of those third party managers on my computer. Reason is, in the past I have encountered malware that would shut of your access to explorer, and it comes in handy to have an alternate program. |

How is Adblock Plus related to Adblock?
The development of Adblock pretty much stopped in 2004. When more and more people demanded improvements Michael McDonald came up with Adblock Plus 0.5 — basically a version of Adblock with whitelisting, filter subscriptions and several other useful features.
This version of Adblock Plus was still based on Adblock, which set hard limits to improvements. Quality of Adblock being... shall we say... less than adequate a complete rewrite was desperately needed. That came with Adblock Plus 0.6 — a completely new extension with focus on being easy to use, stable and secure. For various reasons many enhancements from Adblock Plus 0.5 didn't make it into the original release of Adblock Plus 0.6 but this changed with Adblock Plus 0.6.1. |
I'm running adblock plus with the filter g set. Filter g is updated to block different ads. I'm happy with it. (I only run it in linux, because in windows I purchased AdMuncher). |

Hi Al...I have the same question, but here are my comments.....I have Adblock Plus on one computer and Adblock on another. In terms of effectiveness I can't tell the difference - both work well. I originally started out with Adblock on both computers and went to the Plus on one just to check it out. Haven't seen fit to change either one from one to the other. (perhaps laziness may be a factor here). It seems Adblock Plus may offer more features, but haven't used them - I just want to block annoying ads and both do the job. Using them is slightly different, but not a big deal. I'd say go with either one and you'll probably be happy. Someone else might have another opinion.....Jim |
