You first message said that it was installed.

I tried downloading the Sims 2 in safe mode, but got this error message when i put disk 1 into my computer ..
"Failed to enumerate any DirectX9 compatible graphics adapters in this system!
Please make sure you have a DirectX9 compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest manufacturer provided driver." |
This error message only appears when the game is installing and trying to run.
CD/DVD emulation software allows you to make an image of the disk and use that instead of the original disk. Software such as Alcohol 120%, Alcohol 52, Daemon Tools, CloneCD need to be removed. |

No, my game was not installed. When I said I put my first disk in, I meant that I put it in for the first time in order to begin installation for the first time since my computer was completely wiped clean. There are absolutley no remaining files or anything from the game on my computer at this time. I get that error message from simply putting the disk into my computer.
And I have none of the software you mentioned that would need to be removed.
It would seem that my computer just likes to give me trouble, as I see no reason as to why the disk wont do anything. I tried it on my roommate's computer, and it works fine there. |

Are you able to browse the CD/DVD through Windows Explorer? |

Do you mean explore it and see all the files inside? Yes I can.
And if you're going to ask me to try manually installing it.. well I've already tried it. And the autorun still wouldn't start |

Run the setup.exe file instead of the autorun.exe file. |

Hi, newbie here. I've got the Sims 2 game and when i tried installing it, the process would always stop at around 51% with an error about transferring a file from Disc 3. I've tried this out on 3 coms and my friend did it on his, same problem on all counts.
I decided to follow the steps as stated on page 1 of this topic for a Manual Install and I got a error message stating that it was unable to copy a file from Disc 3. The same file that gave me the problem when i tried to install it normally. The reason given by the computer was that the file is corrupted.
I really wanna play Sims 2, kinda slow I know, the game was released ages ago. Any ideas how to help? |

Hello sardonyxx and welcome to Lockergnome!
It sounds like the disk is damaged because you've tried it on four PCs and it doesn't work on any of them. The possibility of four PCs not reading the disk is incredibly small. Either exchange it or get a refund. |

First of all I would like to say Hi to everyone I am new.
Anywho, I would like to know if someone could help me out I can't install The Sims 2 it stops at 17% and it says that it can't be install b/c of a voicepackage.5. I tried doing it in safemode it still will not install and I tried manually installing it but it will stop on the first disk and a dialog popped up saying DirectX can't be copied. I have played the game before on this computer I think the problem is occuring because the cd has a scratch on it. Does anyone know how to help with the DirectX situation?Could someone please help I would be very grateful if you could. |

Hello trendsetter and welcome to Lockergnome!
Try changing the transfer mode of the drive to PIO only mode. See the SIMS 2 FAQ sticky thread for instructions on how to do this. |

I tried it and it didn't work. I think that I could probaly install it manually but when I try a message pops saying: Cannot copy BDAXP: Data error (cyclic redudancy check) it occurred when I tried to copy a DirectX file. Do you know anything about that file, and can you help me with it.
Sorry to keep bothering you but the instructions that you gave on InstallShield when you change it it to InstallShieldOld. Could you explain this part to me: Start the installation again to reinstall the InstallShield components with the newest version. |

Hi Zeus_GB (and everyone else):
I read through this thread and it looks like you've given really great help to a lot of people. I'm hoping you can help me out as well.
I recently bought a new laptop (Dell Inspiron E1505) and wanted to install The Sims 2 on it. I have the DVD edition of the base game and all the expansion packs. When I inserted the DVD of the base game to install, though, the autoplay screen never came up, and attempting to explore my DVD/CD-RW drive brings up a blank window. I don't think it is reading the DVD at all, because when I right-click to read the drive properties when the DVD is inserted, I get this:
Type: CD Drive
File system: Unknown
Used space: 0 bytes
Free space: 0 bytes
At first, I thought my game disc (which I bought back in 2004, when the game first came out) had become damaged, but then I tried it on my brother's laptop (an Inspiron that came out last year), and he was able to install the game with no problem. My drive does play CDs as well as DVDs (I tested with various music CDs as well as a DVD of The O.C.).
The only problem I can think of is possibly with my operating system. I have Vista Home Basic, whereas my brother's computer (and my old laptop) both ran XP Service Pack 2. |

The CRC error means the disk is damaged. |

Okay, well first of all, sorry if this has been asked before. I've read this thread and I don't think I saw anyone with a smiliar problem...
I got TS2 ages ago and the first time I installed it, it worked fine, no problems at all. I haven't played it since November and wanted to play it today. But I kept getting the "Insert correct disk" error. So I uninstalled it, but now I can't install it again. It doesn't even recognise the disk. The computer makes noises when I put the disk in, so it sounds like it knows there's a disk, but it just doesn't recognise it at all. I click on the shortcut and I get the error message again. It's really annoying me!
Anyways, thanks in advance. |

I've tried everything I can think of. Transfering to PIO mode, uninstalling all my Roxio products, updating my drive firmware. Nothing works. My computer, which runs Vista Home Basic, simply will not detect my DVD disc.
It is detectable on my brother's XP laptop and on the Vista Premium laptop I tried at PC Club. It is NOT detectable on another laptop at the store, that was running Vista Home Basic.
So perhaps The Sims 2 is not Vista Basic compatible? (The expansion pack CDs are, because when I insert them there is data on the CD and they say I have to have the base game installed.) |

Take the game back and have it replaced. |
