Hello jobbnas and welcome to Lockergnome!

It usually doesn't ask you to change the CD.

Hello
I'm also having trouble with installing the game.sorry if this has been said before i didnt read all the pages.

See I only have a dvd drive but the cd-rom version.twice actually.
The problem is, the installation freezes at 22% and a message with something like 'the file ... could not be transfered from the media.retry or quit' pops up.I remember having the same problem months ago when i tried to install the game but i'd solved it somehow.

by the way, i tried what suggested about the cd and dvd nothing worked.you think it's impossible to install the cd-rom?

First thing to try obviously is to check the CD/DVD for scratches or marks and clean.

Try renaming the InstallShield folder.

Double-click on the My Computer icon.
Double-Click on the C:
Double-Click on Program Files then on Common Files.
Right-Click on the InstallShield folder.
Select Rename.
Rename it to InstallShieldOld.
Start the installation again to reinstall the InstallShield components with the newest version.

Try installing the game in Windows safe mode.

If that doesn't work try a copying the files to your hard drive and installing from there.

FOR CD:

Go into My Computer.
Open drive C.
Right-click inside the window and select New, and then Folder.
Name the folder as Disk Images (it is important that the name has a space in it).
Open the disk images folder.
Right-click inside the window and select New, and then Folder.
Name this folder Disk1.
Repeat steps 6 and 7 while substituting Disk1 for Disk2 and so on until there are 4 'Disk' folders followed by a number 1 through 4. it is important to note there must not be a space between "Disk" and the number.
Insert Disk 1 of The Sims 2 into your CD-Rom drive and if the autoplay starts, cancel it.
Go into My Computer.
Right-click on your CD-ROM drive and choose Open.
When you see the contents of the disk in the Window, click on Edit at the top of the window and choose Select All.
All the contents of the disk should now be highlighted, click on Edit at the top of the window again and choose Copy.
Open the Disk1 folder you created under C:\Disk Images; click on Edit at the top of the window and choose Paste. This will copy the contents of the CD into the Disk1 folder.
Repeat steps 9 through 14 for the remaining disks until you have copied each disk into its appropriate folder.
Once all the disks have been copied, remove ALL CDs from any drives.
Open the Disk1 folder under Disk Images and double-click on autorun.exe to start the installation.
To save disk space, you can delete the Disk Images folders after the installation is complete.

FOR DVD:

Insert the DVD into the DVD-rom drive. Exit the startup menu when it comes up.
Double click My Computer, then right click on the DVD-rom drive with the game DVD in it and select Explore.
Hold the CTRL key and then hit A. That should select all the folders and files.
Then hold CTRL and hit C. This will not look like it does much, but it's preparing to copy the files.
Close that folder and go to your desktop. Right click anywhere BUT on an icon, and Select New, then Folder. Name the folder Sims2 DVD.
Then double-click that folder, and hit CTRL and V. This will begin copying the files from the DVD.
Once the files are copied, remove the disc from the drive.
Double-click on the Setup icon in the folder.
You may delete the Sims2 DVD folder once the installation is complete.

Just bought a copy of the expansion pack Sims 2 University, it messed up my Sims 2, and when I uninstalled them both and tried to reinstall the Sims 2 it doesn't work. I tried to manually install and I keep getting a couple of errors

My compressed files in Disc1 and Disc2 both have corrupt files, and when I try to copy the compress files it gives me a invalid MS-DOS. The location of the corrupt files are.....
In Disc1, compress.zip/tsdata/res/sims3d/sims08.package
In Disc2 there are,
compress.zip/tsdata/res/sims3d/sims11.package
compress.zip/tsdata/res/sims3d/sims10.package

I have everything else manually installed on my computer except those two compressed files, any help would be greatly appreciated! Smile

Hello toodazed and welcome to Lockergnome!

First thing i'd do is close all unnecessary background tasks such as anti virus just in case something like that is having an effect.

I am also having a problem installing the Sims2.
I get the following message
" A problem occured when trying to transfer the file
TSData\Res\Sims3D\Sims08.package from the media"
Do you want to retry?
No matter how many times I hit retry is will not go past 5%.
I am installing on a brand new computer not even 2 weeks old.
I have tried to install manually, nothing.
I have even searched the disks for the media file, nothing.
Please help.

When you switch on your PC keep pressing F8 until you see the Windows boot menu, use the cursor keys to select safe mode and press enter.

Sad O.K.
New problems.
In safe mode, with regular install, it goes to 9% then I get the followinr message "A problem occured when transfering the file
TSData\Res\Sound\Voice1.package
from Media"
Hit retry 78 times. No load

In safe mode did the manual naming Disk Images, Disk1 ect.
install went to 22% with the following message
"A problem occured when trying to transfer the file
TSData\Res\Sims3D\CASFace.program
from the media"
Hit retry, lost count.

All i want to do is play my game.Sad

I have everything shut off, virus thing, webthingy, security center thing.
The problem seemd to be with this "TSData" folder. But yet there is only one thing in that folder on the disks.

I forgot to add
I went to the Sims 2 web site and downloaded
the Sims 2 patch.
Patch won't work unless the game is installed.

The only thing I can think of now is try changing the drives transfer mode to PIO only mode (see question 13 on the SIMS 2 FAQ sticky thread).

Nothing can be changed, those are the only things that have the have the letters IDE.
Every thing is working properly.
I am upset, I cannot afford to go out and replace all the Sims 2 games I have.

I have tried to contact EA, but every time I try to send the filled out contact form, I get the "Internal error message"

I am back.
I think I found the problem.
I discovered that the store that I bought my games, would exchange them for what i thought were better ones, they did not have the orginal Sims 2, so I had to buy the Sims 2 deluxe which includes nightlife.
Well that one installed under safe mode, but it crashes while loading.
The newer games will not install as before.
Through my many travels through the disks (while manually installing them) I noticed that on every disk there is a compressed icon(it's not a folder) when you put the mouse pointer over it you see all that is in this compressed icon (folder) for example...
I get the message that "a problem occured when trying to transfer the file "TSData\Res|Sound\Buy.package"
well that file is in that compressed data thingy.

Now..........when i try to unzip them they are corrupt and will not unzipI even tried to extract them with Winwar, and that did not work either.
Any solutions on this one?????
Now remember I got all new games.
I checked the system requirements on ALL the Sims 2 games the store
had and none of them had Vista.

I am sorry if i am being a pain in the butt, but all I want to do is play my Sims2. I was addicted to it and i miss it. Crying or Very sad

Go on to the Acer support site and check for any firmware updates for the CD/DVD drive, if there is one try updating the drive.

Hey Zeus can you please help me out?

I am trying to reinstall the Sims 2 basically... and though I've probably installed the game around 3-4 times... unfortunately this time when I get to Disc 3 it tells me that some file (objects03.package) cannot be found or something. = retry/cancel.

I tried installing in Safe Mode, renamed the InstallShield folder to InstallShieldOld and am now trying to install it manually. (I also cleaned all the cds, especially Disc3 and it's pretty clean apart from some aparent light scratches and 3 tiny small pores.)

I thought to myself, well I can copy all the cd's to their disk folders... but ofcourse when I try copying and pasting the files from Disc3 to it's disc folder, it says that error which means that the cd is corruped/scratched.

So I got the files from my friend, for Disc3 and it's all set.

I go to the Disc1 folder, and hit AutoRun. It starts downloading... but it never tells me to change cds... It just says Download Complete when it gets to 100% and it asks me if I want to launch it, etc.

I do but then it says something about, "Sims 2 encountered an error.. crash.. must close."

Obviously, I mean it only downloaded Disc1 probably. I uninstalled it just now and it had a total of 646 or so mb.

What do I do so it downloads properly?

I really hope you can help me out, thankyou!!
