We are moving our Web Site
http://webpages.atlanticbb.net/~clhenry1/C.A.M.S.html
To a Regular .com addy.
Since there is tons of pictures and slide shows, the dumb question is, is there a program which will auto change all the links to the new addy? Or do i need to prepare myself for a wholeeeeeee bunch of copy & paste.

Second Question. I have never messed with a Blog, But other members would like me to set one up so they can relate their day of flying or building. We are thinking of going with this
http://www.bluehost.com/
And i see "Web Blogs / Wordpress / b2evolution" in the package. So does anyone know if this is just a insert software type of package?

The orginal site i set up was with a combination of NVU, and notepad, If it makes a difference.

Thanks in advance. CL

PS out guest book is constanly getting spamed. hope this will eliminate some of that problem.

Door to door is down right now. I am in the process of removing somethings to get ready for the new site.

Ok, I though something was wrong, maybe not Firefox friendly. :w00t:

Are you certain that all your links are absolute URL's?
ie.

Rather than relative?
ie.

If they are the latter then there's probably not a whole lot to change. If absolute then it's still easy as all you need to do is open the pages in a word processor and use a Find/Replace All function.

As for the blog software many hosts now use software like Fantastico where you can select different scripts and install them directly onto your account. It's nice for those that aren't worried about updating constantly because in my experience most hosts with hundreds of shared accounts don't actively monitor each scripts development. If you want to keep up to date on the scripts for security and features then you're better off installing it on your own. As for blog software -- I personally love Wordpress.

Edit: I just checked your site and the links are indeed absolute. If you don't have that many pages I would just do the trick that mentioned above. With tons of pages I know there are fun ways in Linux that you replace certain lines in a group of text files but I'm not savvy enough to know exacly how!

Don't do a blog unless you have tons of time to cleanup. I read an excerpt from a guy (wish I could be more specific, but the site escapes me) who finally took down his blog because he got tired of removing referrals links posted by people to gambling and porn sites.
You may want to look at a post by Debora about what she does to stop this. All posts are pending on her site and emailed to her. She then decides to approve or throw them in the trash. The posts won't be instant but then your readers will thank you because they don't have to wade thru garbage to get to meaningful posts.

Thanks for the tip and warning Liz. I found Debora's post. The R.C. community is so large, and we keep in touch cross country via e-mail, so we were thinking a blog might be the way to go. Like now i am actually working in my shop but logged on to LG. Then when programs are running i jump in and read and respond to posts. So i could probably keep up. I could always shut it down if i was unable to keep up.

I don't have a problem at all with spam on my blog. I use the builtin Wordpress blacklist (with only their recommended words listed), then I also installed the "Bad Behavior" plugin which blocks bad robots from even getting to a page. I get a few spam every week that comes through but it just ends up in the moderation queue where I can delete it before it even publishes.
