Hi all , I've been a subscriber to the newsletter for many years now , but this is my first journey to the forums . My problem:

I have an HP Pavilion running Windows XP Media Center Edition . Pentium 4 at 2.53ghz , with 512 megs of ram. Recently , this week , it stopped recognizing it's cd & dvd drives . It has a Mitsumi CD-Rom FX48++W and a HP DVD Writer 200j . I'm told in Device Manager that the drivers are either "corrupt or missing " code 39 .I've been to the respective manufacter's web sites and downloaded the lastest drivers for both drives . However , when I try to install the drivers I'm told there are no devices for these drivers ?? I'm STUMPED , ANY help will be GREATLY appreciated ! Thanks to all .

Check the cable they are attached to inside the computer, it could be loose or bad, also check to see if the are seen in BIOS.

Well, #1 I'd unplug them, reboot a few times, totaly remove them from windows, reboot a few times, run windows update, then, plug them in in a DIFFRENT order, if possable even on another cable, windows should see them as new, delete there drivers and everything, and then let it rip, once there installed, visit windows update, they detect drivers and stuff, hope thats of help

Thanks again dude's . I had tried cheakin all the cables , had uninstalled both a few times with no luck. Have back-ups of all my drivers & other important thingies . BUT , all my back-ups are on cd's & I had no access to the cd drives, couldn't even open them . Found some older back-ups on Zip discs but the system wouldn't accept them .
The registry tweek that 'horsecharles' posted a link to did the trick ! So , Special thanks to horsecharles , now I can burn some Christmas presents .Peace & Love to all
Happy Holidays !

What does fixing zip files have to do with a problem involving CD and DVD drives?

Nothing. Once again zwr posts a non-sequitur response to a long-dead, resolved thread basically saying "Hey! I have no clue how to fix your problem but if you buy my software it might help!"

The only thing that zwr's suggestion will help is his or her bank account.

I had that same thought, but I also thought that maybe if I just said SOMETHING, anything, that someone else would verify my suspicions. Laughing Laughing Laughing

We certainly need more participation in this forum, but lurkers and spammers we don't need.

Trow da bums OUT!
