My computer plays Involuntarily music, possibly from a pop-up. The pop-op is not visible, but it sounds like a 2-7 second ad/commercial.
I saw another forum of possibly installed themes in my (sounds/audio devices)
Anyother thoughts?.
Running Xp
Thank you |

you can confirm if it's a pop up by pressing ctrl-alt-del to bring up the task manager. If you see one too many instances of iexplore.exe or firefox.exe (for example) than the number of browser indows you see open or in your taskbar, then it could be. Some popups don't how up in taskbar and open off the screen, or don't appear at all.
Have you closed all instances of your browser in this way, to see if is goes away? And is it really just music, or is there talking and/or sound effects to make you think it's an ad?
How often does this happen? When? What are you doing before it happens? These questions will help the other guys who know better about malware to figure out what's going on if it's not a pop up. Also, what security software do you have? Have you run scans yet?
I had a problem like this once; invisible popup playing music, but showed up in task manager. I believe I had a trojan that was bringing in the pop-ups, so my scans fixed it. |

For now it only appears when my browser is open.
Yes talking and music.
Can not give a answer on the "how often" let's say more than once in a matter of a hour.
I am running Symantec 360, as far as I know everything is up to date and I run scans more than once per week.
Thanks for your help. |

Symantec? Well that's your problem!
Nothing from Symantec in the protection game is worth two cents.
You will find this same information on every help forum, worldwide, so I'm not saying anything new.
Get rid of that resource hog and get some protection software that will actually do you some good. Uninstall Norton (Symantec) first.
Start with AVG 8.0 FREE anti-virus software and follow that up with Spybot Search & Destroy. These two programs are the very Minimum that you need.
You should be using Mozilla Firefox with AdBlock+ installed, to prevent your browser from ever opening sites and ad boxes that are full of adware/spyware.
It so much easier to keep the crapola off of your PC in the first place by doing the things we talk about every day here in the forums, than to try to disinfect your PC after it's been infected.
You can find my entire list of Computer Security Software (mostly FREE) if you click HERE.
There's not much more we can do for you till you disinfect your PC.
Symantec (Norton) won't do it for you.
Good Luck,
The Doctor |

| Yes I use Microsoft messenger, I am not signed in when the talking or music starts. I just also realized it's not necessarily when I have my browser open. It appears to be random. |

Hello,
Have you checked with Symantec's technical support department to see if they can assist you in examining the system for adware?

| How are your CPU and system temperatures? Some motherboards will play music when your temperature goes over a certain point. Check you BIOS settings for temperature limits. You may be overheating because of dust build up inside the computer. When was the last time you blew out the dust? |

he says it's an ad though, which leads me to this: What's the ad about?
and go get DrWho's list and get the software, run the scans. |
