This is happening on more than one computer. I religiously update and run CA Antivirus, MS Antivirus, Ad-Aware, Spybot, A-squared as well as online scan Trend Micro, PC Pitstop, and others. Curiously, McAfee online scan will not load app page. I downloaded a new update from Spybot that added over 4000 sigs. This was strange, but then again, sometimes updates are far between for Spybot.

It is also curious that otherwise everything is normal. Completely normal. We cannot scan our computers in safe mode. Which virus will be exposed with a scan in safe mode? Or maybe this is an as yet unknown virus. I hope not. At least there doesn't appear to be any damage to files.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Try Symantec's online scanner:

Let us know if this works or not. :hmm:

PCPitStop is running -- uses Panda AV.
BTW - Symantec was attempted in both Firefox and IE. Same msg.

Panda Quick Scan revealed nothing. PC Pitstop offers, as a second opinion, the opportunity to scan using Freescan from McAfee. It will not load. Now running Panda full scan. Bit Defender is next.

How many computers are you talking about? It might help to give specs and OS's. Just some thoughts. Sad

There are other posts in Windows Fanatics with the same problem. One person is having their computer freeze at logon password when booting to safe mode (running XP Home). When password requirement cleared, safe mode boot was succesful. I have yet to boot to safe mode.

My specs: Win XP Pro SP2, all updates. Pent. III, 500 mghz, 384 RAM.

I have checked HiJack This, nothing abnormal, Bazooka came back clean. Have just noticed that for the third time MS AntiSpy has dwnld the same numbered update file.

I have never had a problem before now.

MS download problem has been going on for about a week. If you haven't already, download the new version with a expiration of 12-31-05 B)

Try this link to Symantec and use IE:

RONS,

Tried the link, in IE of course, and this is what I got. Actually this is from the Java Script detect page, but it freeze after that. There is an option to run w/o script, I'm just not quick enough; yet.

Finally got Symantec page to load but got the same msg as earlier. Looked at Java Script Console and items are being loaded as CSS even though they are MIME type. Errors galore. Other script dependent scanners run though.

I was going to mention the "JavaScript" problem. Some online scans require javascript to be active (McAffee, Symantic, etc.). Some don't need it. Check your copy of Java, and see if it is the newest version. They had an update a while back, to eliminate some problems.
