I am fixing an HP Pavilion zx 5000 laptop for a coworker. Every time it boots, it displays the HP logo and then goes to a blank screen. It will sit there like that forever unless you press F1, then it boots just fine. I have formated the hard drive and re-installed Windows XP. I downloaded the bios from HP's website and flashed the bios. I also downloaded and installed all the other drivers for it. The date & time are correct in bios, so I don't think it is the CMOS battery.
Has anyone seen this? I want to fix it so she doesn't have to press F1 everytime she boots.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hello,

Is there any specific message which appears on the screen telling you to press the F1 key?

It may actually very well be that the battery which powers the the CMOS/RTC memory is beginning to fail. You might want to try replacing it and seeing if that makes any difference.
