Laptop battery no longer holds charge - but had been working fine using power adapter until last week when connector started losing contact. Closed system down normally on Friday, and unplugged adapter, next day - no power at all. Power connector on computer feels tight, opened computer and all componets appear normal. Removed hard drive and checked in a drive enclosure - all was well. OS is Vista Home. Anyone got any ideas?

Hello,

Perhaps the electrical connection between the power connector and the motherboard has broken?

Did you check the power connector on the HP Pavilion DV9205US notebook computer's motherboard to make sure the solder connection was unbroken?

Regards,

Thank you for replying goretsky. On this laptop, the connector is a plug in type. But in searching HP for information, we found a page listing several issues that might be covered under an additional warranty even though the original warranty expired in March. Apparently it's cause is a total system board failure. HP is sending package to return the computer at their expense for diagnosis and repair. If the board has failed, they will replace it at no cost to my customer.

Without question, we were relieved to discover this additional warranty info and quite pleased with HP's response. Kudo's to them.
