Hello,

I did not see any files in the HijackThis log which I could attribute to malware, so the change to your system must be somewhere that is not in that log.

I noticed that both AVG and MalwareBytes were installed on the computer. Since you already have some security software installed, I would suggest that you contact the vendors' technical support and request assistance in performing a more in-depth examination to identify and remove the malware from the computer.

Can the malware be hidden in a specific user account that is not detected if I'm running the hijackthis log from another user account? I notice the google hijack problem still exists in all users though. Would it help if I run hijackthis under the user account that I believe to be the culprit?

I'm really at a lost right now. Can a virus or trojan hide itself somewhere that it would even survive a complete factory restore? I have an acer computer, and in my attempt to eliminate this google hijack bug, I completely restored my computer to the factory default setting (not from cd's, but from a partitioned drive that has the microsoft windows installed, I guess). But even after the restore, the google sites are still being hijacked. Can the virus live in the partitioned drive? HOw do I resolve this issue? THanks a bunch.

Hello,

A factory restore should get you back to your original settings.

Could it be that your router has been compromised? Perhaps someone changed the DNS server settings remotely on it.
