I'll start...
Just saw the notice about closing the PG section. Thought I'd say "bye" to some of you while I had the chance. Just an FYI regarding the hubby while I'm at it. He's doing pretty good. "Cancer free" as of now, so we are hopeful that he's got a few more quality years left. Now comes the task of gaining back most of the weight he lost during treatment and getting his strength back.
I imagine I'll still pop into LG from time to time. I didn't start out here in PG, anyway. Just got sucked in after awhile. lol!
I wish you all well. See ya around.

Don't Panic …
| Quote: |
| Dolphins: [singing] So long, and thanks for all the fish / So sad that it should come to this / We tried to warn you all, but, oh, dear / You may not share our intellect / Which might explain your disrespect / For all the natural wonders that grow around you / So long, so long, and thanks for all the fish! The world's about to be destroyed / There's no point getting all annoyed / Lie back and let the planet dissolve around you / Despite those nets of tuna fleets / We thought that most of you were sweet / Especially tiny tots and your pregnant women / So long, so long, so long, so long, so long! So long, so long, so long, so long, so long! So long, so long, and thanks for all the fish!/ If I had just one last wish / I would like a tasty fish!/If we could just change one thing / We would all have learnt to sing!/Come one and all / Man and mammal / Side by side / In life's great gene pool!/ So long, so long, so long, so long, so long / So long, so long, so long, so long / So long, so long and thanks for all the fish! |
| Quote: |
| The Book: It's an important and popular fact that things are not always what they seem. For instance, on the planet Earth, Man had always assumed that he was the most intelligent species occupying the planet, instead of the *third* most intelligent. The second most intelligent creatures were of course dolphins who, curiously enough, had long known of the impending destruction of the planet earth. They had made many attempts to alert mankind to the danger, but most of their communications were misinterpreted as amusing attempts to punch footballs or whistle for titbits. So they eventually decided they would leave earth by their own means. The last ever dolphin message was misinterpreted as a surprisingly sophisticated attempt to do a double backward somersault through a hoop while whistling the star-spangled banner, but in fact the message was this: So long and thanks for all the fish. |
| Quote: |
| The Book: "Space," it says, "is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mindboggingly big it is. |
we may meet again
it was nice meeting you all, friend, foe or anything in-between
live long and prosper … |

| I know I haven't been too active here the last few months due to work and other priorities. I've made some friends, enemies and all points in between here over the years. If anyone wants to keep in touch just send a PM and I'll shoot you my email address. |

Thanks mommabear for starting this thread,
hope you and your husband do well for years.
Thanks to Lockergnome for hosting this forum,
and big thanks to the moderators,
who, over the years, have made it work.
To all others, thank you for your participation,
especially those who did not quite get my viewpoint,
I am sure you can be redeemed.

So long, everybody. It has been fun arguing. I even enjoyed being disagreed with.
I am glad Mommabear that things seem to be going better.
One last political statement: Why get rid of PG and not humor? It seems to me they are similar in their non electronic orientation...
Can anybody suggest an alternative location to continue our vigorous disagreements? |

MommaBear - you and your family will be in my prayers for your husband's full recovery.
I have been following this forum but I didn't know of its being turned off til now.
I agree with Bern in that I am also interested in a place where I can go to be informed on a variety of opinions and information sources. Even though I was only an occasional poster, I always depended on this forum to guide me to other places where I can get both sides, and an occasional "tangent" on current events. I would much appreciate any ideas on similar forums any of you might know of.

i agree
but lockergnome PG is/was very unique
and on other forums i would go as far too say, that the leeway for the debate(s) as they have gone on here would not be allowed or turn into hell on wheels. it would also not have and be missing the rivalry that was part of this forum (in a friendly way'ish)
i am going to miss you lot
live long and prosper … |

I will admit the same thought occurred to me. I was going to bring it up, but thought I'd be nice to the dying forum ...

I wish I could. I don't know anywhere else that isn't overly moderated or where one side doesn't vastly outnumber the other making actual discussion impossible.
To all: I agree with the sentiment here. I'll miss this forum and those in it, especially those I disagree with. We may not have always gotten along nicely, but you made me think, which is why no matter how annoying this place got at times, I always came back. |

Well you know I gotta take one last shot now don't ya. Thanks to the liberally minded folks behind this forum for killing it at a time when it is needed most.
It's been fun and informative y'all. My info and profile are all over the net so I'm sure y'all can find me if you want but if anyone wants to drop me a note now and then here's a contact email <bobberard.TakeThisOut@ftc-i.net>. I don't worry 'bout posting it cause I promise you. If I don't want you to reach me ... you won't reach me and spam is never an issue I worry about.
One last thing to remember before I go ...the only constant in life is change. We simply have differing opinions on whether that's a good thing or bad.
Till next our paths cross on the journey of life. Brightest Blessings to you all.
P.S. to mommabear: I'm very happy to hear your husband is dong well and I wish you both the best for the future.
Okay time for mew to ride off into the electronic sunset now ............. |

I haven't been hanging around much lately as I made some changes to my life, including a pledge to spend less time online & more time on other things such as getting out & about in Sydney, and reading some good novels. But I have been dropping by to moderate, so I haven't been completely out of the loop.
Over the years I have made some good online friends here (and some online enemies too - it did surprise me to find out just how vengeful some people can be if you disagree with them). I have found out a lot of things I previously did not know about the USA, mainly for the positive. For example, no longer do I think that all Americans are loud & overbearing (must be just those ones who come to Oz as tourists ). The PG forum has opened my eyes to a wide variety of views and opinions on some very important issues (and quite a few trivial ones too!).
But times do move on. It has been the most tumultuous decade I have ever lived through, and the conversations here reflected that. Hopefully those bad times are over now & the world can move on.
But rarely, if ever, did I see a debate here actually change someone's opinion on a matter, so I think that is why I gradually drifted away. Just got tired of hearing the "same-old, same-old" all the time.
mommabear, my thoughts have often been with you and your husband over the past few years. I'm very glad he is now recovering. I know your hubbie's health & the associated medical costs have made life quite difficult over the past few years - hopefully you will have some worry-free time ahead of you now.
I wish everyone who has frequented, or just occasionally dropped by, the Political Geeks forum over the years all the best for the future. We may have many differences politically, but this site has shown to me that we also have much in common with each other.
Adios,
Scott |

but on other parts of the forum we would be unable to debate if 'Dexter is a good dog' or not … |

Maybe we could get subversive and debate whether Dexter is a good dog on the humor forum. Since most of our political ravings have been pretty funny anyway... |

Is this forum owned and run by Microsoft?
Closing the most widely used forum of all would typically be an MS trick.
(take something people know and love and destroy it)
And, why not close some of those other forums that don't get a post from one week to the next?
Killing off popular topics is the quickest way that I can think of to drive people away and into other forums.
A good friend has a web site with an area for Forums and he's said he'd be OK with creating a new forum for "Political Geeks".
Is anyone interested?
