Sure, thousands! What kind of programs are you looking for?

How about starting with computer security,,,,,one area where most users fall way short.

These are the programs I use every day to keep my own PC and the PC’s
of all my customers, spotlessly clean of malware.
I suggest every person having any Virus or Spyware issues get these programs and use them immediately.
Do check for updates to all your security software on a DAILY basis.

SPYWARE/Trojan BLOCKERS/REMOVERS:

Trojan Hunter, is a first class Trojan Horse Virus removal program.
The downloaded version is a 30 day, Fully Functional, free trial.
Use the Free Trial to clean up a Dirty system or buy the retail license to have a year of full service plus updates. Download "Trojan Hunter" here:
http://www.misec.net/trojanhunter/

From the web page, just click "Download Free Trial Version"
It's a 5.9 meg download.

Spybot Search & Destroy,
(a great anti Spyware program.)
Can be downloaded from:
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,22262-order,1-page,1-c,alldo...oads/de

For instructions on how to set up Spybot for best operation,
See my Spybot Setup instructions on this webpage.
http://cxt_msp_shafl.members.atlantic.net

AdAware 2007 FREE.
Another top notch anti Spyware program.
A great companion program to Spybot S&D.
Can be downloaded from:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
Click the Green button on right side of screen.

Spyware Blaster,
a great Spyware Blocker.
Protects both I.E. and Mozilla Firefox.
Can be downloaded from:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2859.html
DO NOT use in conjunction with Microsoft Office
(the two programs don’t seem to like each other)

SpyHunter
A Spyware Elimination Utility
Finds things the others don't.
A retail product, ($29.95 for a one year subscription)
but, the 30 day trial will let you know if you have any malware on your HD.
Download from:
http://www.enigmasoftwaregroup.com

ANTI-VIRUS PROTECTION:

AVG 7.5 FREE:
World famous AVG FREE will keep your computer free of viruses,
trojans, dialers, etc.
By default, it updates and scans for viruses on a daily basis.
AVG 7.5 FREE, can be downloaded from:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5
Scroll down the page to the orange area and then click on:
avg75free_472a1024.exe (or the currently posted version)
Save to your desktop and run the install from there.
If you have an older version of AVG free already installed,
use the 'Repair Install' option when installing v. 7.5.
Immediately get updates. More than one may be required.

vCleaner, Stand Alone Virus Checker from Grisoft.
Can be downloaded from:
http://www.grisoft.com/doc/112/lng/us/tpl/tpl01
Save to your Desktop and run from there.

REGISTRY CLEANER:

Easy Cleaner, the best Registry Cleaner I've found so far.
Can be downloaded from:
http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm
Just scroll down to "Download & Installation" and click on the first floppy disk symbol.
******************************

I find this area the easiest to respond to, since I'm in the computer Security and Efficiency business. And I don't like spending money foolishly on software that's too expensive and doesn't work....like Norton AV software. Wink

Cheers!

Hello,

Here are some programs I typically install on a computer when I set it up for personal use:

2BrightSparks - SyncBack
Adobe - Reader
AutoHotKey
CDex
Cedrick Collomb - Unlocker
DivX - DivX codec
FileZilla
Google - Talk
Lars Hederer - ERUNT
Lightning UK! - ImgBurn
Mozilla - Firefox
Pyrenean - eDexter

Microsoft also has several free programs which are very useful, such as Calculator Plus, Fiddler, Time Zone, TweakUI, Virtual CD-ROM Driver and Windows Live Messenger, to name a few. These should all be available by searching Microsoft's web site.

Regards,

One program I found to be a must-have when I used Windows was IrfanView (freeware):
Quote:
IrfanView is a very fast, small, compact and innovative FREEWARE (for non-commercial use) graphic viewer for Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista.

It is trying to be simple for beginners and powerful for professionals.

IrfanView is trying to create new and/or interesting features in its own way, unlike some other graphic viewers, whose whole "creativity" is based on feature cloning, stealing of ideas and whole dialogs from ACDSee and/or IrfanView! (for example: XnView has been stealing/cloning features and whole dialogs from IrfanView, for 7+ years).

IrfanView was the first Windows graphic viewer WORLDWIDE with Multiple (animated) GIF support.
One of the first graphic viewers WORLDWIDE with Multipage TIF support.
The first graphic viewer WORLDWIDE with Multiple ICO support.

Some IrfanView features:

* Many supported file formats (click here for the list of formats)
* Multi language support
* Thumbnail/preview option
* Toolbar skins option
* Slideshow (save slideshow as EXE/SCR or burn it to CD)
* Show EXIF/IPTC/Comment text in Slideshow/Fullscreen etc.
* Support for Adobe Photoshop Filters
* Fast directory view (moving through directory)
* Batch conversion (with image processing)
* Multipage TIF editing
* File search
* Email option
* Multimedia player
* Print option
* Change color depth
* Scan (batch scan) support
* Cut/crop
* IPTC editing
* Effects (Sharpen, Blur, Adobe 8BF, Filter Factory, Filters Unlimited, etc.)
* Capturing
* Extract icons from EXE/DLL/ICLs
* Lossless JPG rotation
* Many hotkeys
* Many command line options
* Many PlugIns
* Only one EXE-File, no DLLs, no Shareware messages like "I Agree" or "Evaluation expired"
* No registry changes without user action/permission!
* and much much more

Click here to see a screenshot of IrfanView.

One program I'm using a lot these days and wondering how I ever got along without, is "Photo Filter". You can download a free version Here:
http://photofiltre.en.softonic.com/

It's a great photo editor program that allows me to easily crop, resize and even label any photo.

I downloaded a map of my basic neighborhood and was able to add arrows and street names to it, making it much more useful.

Give it a try.

7-zip and or zip genius to compress files for storage or back-up.
WinAmp as a good media player.
Windows Install Clean Up fpr those files that won't uninstall because you don't have the original install files
Kenyonsoft's WinToolsXP to give you easy access to Windows' controls (This isn't the same programme as the Wintools Trojan/spyware, as far as I can see - but I've been warned of the latter. )

Majorgeeks don't usually offer bad programmes .
i.e. http://www.majorgeeks.com/KinyonSoft_WinToolsXP_d5482.html

According to Counterspy http://research.sunbelt-software.com/threatdisplay.aspx?name=IBIS.WinT...s&t

The spyware Wintools is a BHO type ( a bit like Coolwebsearch from the sounds of it )
WintoolsXP is very different. It doesn't appear in Counterspy's database and it does very different things: Mostly it gives access to the most common Windows settings and controls.

My own Software Guru just gave me a 30 day trial of a program called
"Vise Versa".

If you have a second HD partition, or a second internal drive or even an external (USB) drive, this program will let you keep current backups of files or folders on your main drive to a backup location of your choice.

I haven't tried it yet, but it should also back up to a Flash Drive.

It looks like a keeper! I'll most likely buy it when the 30 day free trial is up.

Here's their web site:
www.tgrmn.com

Cheers!
