The Labor Department on Friday reported that non-farm payrolls declined by 539,000 in April, and the Obama-loving media are cheering this as good news.
Here are some of the headlines:
US Jobless Rate Hits 8.9%, but Pace of Losses Eases -- New York Times
Layoffs slow to 539K in April; jobless rate rises -- Associated Press
Job losses ease, but unemployment rate up -- CNNMoney.com
Is this how the loss of over a half million jobs would have been reported when George W. Bush was President?
The answer is so obvious that even the New York Times got it right:

The United States economy lost 539,000 jobs in April, the government reported on Friday, a sign that the relentless pace of job losses was starting to level off slightly but was still nowhere near ending.
A year ago, the loss of more than half a million jobs in a single month would have seemed like a disaster for the economy. On Friday, experts were calling it an improvement. |

This is pretty pathetic. We lost more than 1/2 a million jobs last month, even though the Census Bureau hired more than 60,000 temporary workers, and it's somehow a good sign.
And it gets even worse:

When NewsBusters reported earlier today that media members were depicting April's 539,000 jobs loss as "good news," I never imagined anyone would characterize the data as "employment doing well."
Yet, that's how Politico's "44" blog -- "A Living Diary of the Obama Presidency" -- first teased Friday's Labor Department announcement at its front page.

| I was wondering of anyone was going to pick up on that.
Couldn't you just hear something like this being said on the Ttianic?
"Great News everyone! The !st Mate informs me that because we are going down by the bow the rate we are sinking has slowed which means we have an extra hour or so before the ship goes down. Plenty of time to listen to the inspiring music being played by the band on the Promenade Deck. And more good news. I have just been told the water is now actually a few degrees above freezing. That should help those without a life boat being forced to swim. Of course since we are a Liberal Ship Line if you swim challenged we will be happy to appoint a Coast Guard certified rescue swimmer to work with you while you are in the water. That is just as soon as they arrive on the relief vessel due to atrrive about 4 hours.
