Hello,
I'm looking for a free program which partitions/formats HDs into NTFS and FAT32. It must have USB support! Because the only free program I found, didn't have USB support...so it was useless to me. The windows partitioning program doesn't help either, because I would need the program to format a 500GB HD into FAT32. And windows has the 32GB limit for FAT32.
Is there any program like that out there?

Hello,

Have you tried GPartEd?

No, I haven't tried GPartEd. I'll try it soon. From what I've seen on the website, it looks good. Thanks.

OK, I've downloaded the program...but I have absolutely no idea how to use it. I got two versions, a gparted-live-stable version, where there is one .exe file called 'syslinux', but i don't want to run it incase it accidentally does something. And the other version doesn't have any .exes. So I'm pretty lost... Confused ...help!

http://www.howtoforge.com/partitioning_with_gparted
and
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-gparted-to-resize-y...-window

You should have downloaded the iso from here
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=115843&packa...id=2717
Do you know how to burn an ISO? Burn it and boot from it. It will not affect your windows install; it is a linux live CD and syslinux is a part of that.

Thanks. That's cleared things up. I'm just wondering if i can burn an ISO just by creating a data disc with Windows, or do I need another program like Roxio or Nero?

If you don't have a program to burn ISOs, grab the FREE one, ImgBurn. Even I understood how to use it and it has never failed me.
http://www.imgburn.com/
Once you install it, yoy should be able to right click your ISO and select, Burn with ImgBurn. Don't change any of the settings. It will cycle the tray (the tray comes out and goes back in) then it will verify what is burned. When it's done, it plays a tune so you know it worked.
Note: it does more than just burn ISOs but I mainly use it for this purpose.

If anyone, or everyone, would just get and install Nero, they would never again have to ask the question "how do I, blah, blah, blah ?"

Nero does it all.
I use it to burn ISO's to CD. I use it to make bootable CD's off of boot floppies or boot flash drives.
It's just my 'All-In-One' CD/DVD creation tool.

Try it....you'll like it! Wink

Sorry for not getting back. The computer broke before I could get around to trying the program. It seems like the mobo is gone. So..I have no idea when I will test it.
Thanks anyway Smile.

Maybe you don't get them in the USA, but I get lots of the free commercial programmes ( like ones I won't trust to unknown programmes such as for partitioning), from magazines. Never the most recent version of course, but hey, it's free, well tested, well documented and well known.

No, we do not get free CDs and DVDs with computer magazines. For those, I go to a bookstore, look over the magazines from the UK, see what is on the included disk and then buy the magazine. It has to be something I want because the magazine costs between $16 and $20 US so if it doesn't have a few things, I won't purchase it.

That explains a lot.
I have Acronis True Image from a magazine - free full version ( not the most recent, of course - but often that's not a bad thing). Paragon Partition Manager, ( ditto) and a load of others, that have come and gone over the years. And if I don't like them or a better one comes along..... all at no cost.
The only drawback is the small print, so be careful with your $20. Some programmes are 3 month trials ( very small print). Most are the real thing.

Thank you for those replies, and sorry for not getting back. I was, for some reason, not notified of replies anymore...

I've tried many so-called FREE partitioning programs. I even tried one that was a tease....I wound up spending hard earned money, just to find out that it was CRAP.

For all my HD partitioning needs I use only "Partition Magic 8".

I've had it and used it for so long that I can't even remember where or when I got it.
I do know that I previously used "Partition Magic 6" and before that, version 4.

Happy Holidays Everyone!
