Interesting opinion piece in the WSJ about the Franken victory. I can find no factual errors in this piece.

If I am not mistaken, Gore tried similar shabby tactics in Florida in 2000, and was stopped by SCOTUS. |
Well it is the Liberal Democratic way after all. |

You will find that Coleman originally opened this can of worms...
Franken and Coleman Vote Count Timeline
| Quote: |
| They were also in the period just before the Coleman campaign went on a frivolous-challenge jag in order to artificially (and temporarily) goose the official recount numbers in their favor, and the Franken campaign felt compelled to play tit-for-tat just to make sure the publicly-announced faked-up Coleman "lead" didn't get too high. |

Your article is ancient history. And It speaks mainly about challenged ballots early in the process. Not really of relevance at this stage.
There were several thousand disallowed absentee ballots, which came into play much later than your article, and, it seems to me, fairness would dictate that all of them should be recounted. But only the ones from heavily Franken districts were added to the totals. And the Minnesota Supreme Court let it stand... |

When Coleman opened this can of worms he carefully selected ballots from those
areas that were against him.
No doubt Frankens team did the same thing.
The State court said that all ballots must be counted under the same rules.
Senate recount trial judges put 4,800 more ballots in play
| Quote: |
In the ruling, the judges said they will focus on rejected absentee ballots cast by voters who complied with the requirements of Minnesota election law or failed to comply because of mistakes by local elections officials.
"We're very, very pleased with the ruling," said Coleman legal spokesman Ben Ginsberg, who predicted that "the vast majority" of the 4,797 ballots would be accepted and counted. |

Coleman tried every trick in the book (no pun intended) available to him in the hopes that the count would go his way. That was his right. But at the end of the day, he lost.
I guess it's only frivolous lawsuits and a of case sour grapes when liberals appeal to the courts.
At least Gore didn't tie things up for 7 months like Coleman did. He showed some Class.
(just a quick edit for a grammar error)

Re: liberals and courts. Libs still whine about 2000. Let's see if conservatives are still whining about Minnesota in 2017.
Bush Gore went all the way to SCOTUS. Can't go much further than that. And Coleman could have taken it there and chose not to.
BTW, good to hear from you again. |
