Hello,

This is the first time this has ever happened. Whenever i click on somthing or load an application my floppy drive will light up and will start making noises. When the hard drive starts to make noises then usually the floppy will start to make noise to. Its driving me insane and it slows down the comp. Any ideas???

Thanks

Ok.. I'll try to help:

You don't say what OS you are using, so, assuming something recent like XP or 2K:

Open up Windows Explorer. Chances are it's going to take you straight to the A:\ drive... If it does, just click on the C:\ drive, wait till it displays the folders there, and then close Explorer. Hopefully, that will work. If not, try holding either the CTRL or SHIFT key the next time you close it after doing the same thing I suggested above.

If you are using Windows 98, you can go into the Control Panel, and go to the System Settings, (or right click on my computer and select properties) and then go to the advanced tab. Somewhere in there, is a setting to check for the Floppy Drive. Uncheck it. Windows 98 gurus: It's been a while since I used that OS, so if you can be more specific, please help out! :)

Hope this helps!

What were you doing the last time you accessed the floppy drive? It sounds like you have a file stiil trying to access the drive. As an example, I once copied fonts from a floppy directly to the HD without going through the proper install fonts process. Then every time I started Windows or opened an application that accessed the fonts folder, the floppy drive would start up.

I have my floppy disabled in BIOS.

Open Startup and change the floppy drive to None. If you need it, it's easy enough to turn it back on again (it's in the BIOS, so you don't need any OS to boot to enable it), but if the BIOS doesn't report a floppy drive to the system, nothing in Windows can make it run.

This works for folks that keep getting FDD access from their anti-virus apps.
