For those of you using Mandriva Linux, an rpm is now available which will install the FlashPlayer 9 beta. Although the tar file can be downloaded from Adobe's site, I had problems with sound when I installed it, so I went back to FlashPlayer 7. However, the new rpm seems to work perfectly. I tested it by viewing a Photobucket video (which can't be viewed with Flash 7), and I got picture & sound, which is good enough for me.

You can download the rpm from: FlashPlayer rpm build for : Mandriva 2007.

At the moment it looks like Mandriva is the only distro which has an rpm for the newest version of FlashPlayer, but users of other distros might want to keep an eye out here to see if any rpm's are added for their OS.

You can also get the rpm at the plf mirror of your choice in the Back Ports section

Thanks for letting us know ernie. I was initially wondering what the difference between them was as the plf one is only 6.2 KB while the one I posted is 2.5 MB, but the details of the plf one explained it:
Quote:
Adobe Flash Player plugin for browsers.

NOTE: This package does not contain the Flash Player itself. The software will be automatically downloaded from Adobe during package installation. Alternatively you can use the command "download-flash-player-plugin" manually.

Using the plf repository might be the better way to go though as it will be easier to keep track of any updates to it.

The release version of Flash Player is now available! No more Flash Beta! The release version is available on plf or from Adobe as either a tarball or i386 RPM package here.

Thanks ernie for the update. I just installed the final release from PLF Non-Free Backports.
