PostPosted: Sat Sep 22, 2007 2:58 pm    Post subject: A Firefox problem that needs some solving (SOLVED !!!)

Every time I try to open Firefox using a pre-saved shortcut, one that's been working OK for months, I get this error message, then a few seconds later the page opens as if normally, but the error message stays on the screen in the background. I have to get rid of it after I close firefox.

Error: image could not be loaded. Image is not available from server

I hope someone can tell me what's going on here and how to stop it.

Thanks,

Shadow Cool

PS: This doesn't happen with I.E.

Go to control panel - folder options - file type.
Select (none) URL - Hypertext... (may want to get them all while here)
(or HTML can't remember which, been a while)
Click on advanced - edit
Delete everything in the "DDE message:" box.

I get these from time to time also - real PITA until you find the above info.

You can also just uncheck the "Use DDE" box.

This site has more explicit instructions:

Thanks for the link - trying to remember off my head doesn't cut it at times - thought I remembered but left out some minor details.

BTW: I have notice that at times this gets "reset" (upgrades - I think) so, don't be surprised if you have to do it again.

Tux,
you may as well have been writing in Russian!
I was thoroughly confused. Rolling Eyes

Xavierx,
the link did the trick. I was able to follow it detail for detail till I got all the DDE's unchecked and that did the trick.

Thanks Guys,
LG to the rescue once again. Wink

Blessings!

Shadow Cool

PS: I believe this all started after the latest FF upgrade to 2.0.0.7.

Yes, as Baby_Tux said, you may have to repeat that process after every upgrade.

Hmm, sounds like a prime case for a bat file, if I could figure out how to do that from the command prompt ...

Shadow, so I don't confuse someone again, what was it about what I wrote compared to the link that confused you? (other than the typos, which I corrected)

Tux,
I do thank you for your prompt response. Don't think that I don't. OK?
I just couldn't follow your train of thought.
I'm sure it was meaningful to you, but I was really lost.
Leave out just one little detail and it WHACKS the whole thing.

That link took me through the whole process, step by step and got me all fixed up. I've made a text file of that info and have it stored for the next time that problem rears its ugly head.

xavierx,
I don't think a batch file is what you need.
A registry script would do the job nicely though if you could just find all the registry Keys that need to be altered. If it were just one key, I'd write it myself, but with so many things that need to be changed, its more of a task than I really want to take on myself.

Thanks again guys. I really do appreciate y'all.

Y'all have a great day now, Y'hear?

Shadow,

You're right. After I wrote that, I started poking around and came to all the same conclusions - a reg script would work great, but it'd be more work than it is worth.

400,000,000 people have downloaded Firefox so far.

That ain't hay! That's a huge achievement for any program!!!!!

Congrat's Firefox. !!!!!!!!

With any program that's in a state of development and improvement like Firefox is, we can expect an occasional glitch. Anyone who's not ready to deal with that, shouldn't be using a computer.

I just thank God for my friends here in Lockergnome Forums that will step up to the plate (old baseball term) and help out a friend in need.

I'm sure that I'm not the only one who will be helped by your responses.
If I had the problem, I'm sure others did too.

Thank you Guys.....you're the greatest bunch of guys on the internet.

God Bless,
The Shadow Cool

Shadow (& anyone else trying to follow along) - sorry for the confusion. I figured out what it was & corrected it. How I got the path wrong & didn't catch it before, I'll never know. Went back through it & thought "no wonder he got confused".

Tux,
Your quick response was much appreciated....don't think it wasn't.

I'm just a very detail oriented type. Leave out just one little detail and I can get lost. Part of that may be my 64 years and part of that may be due to my Diabetes and the toll it's taking on my mind.

As tacks go, I ain't the sharpest one in the box, any longer. Wink Rolling Eyes Laughing

Thanks again buddy. You're appreciated more than you know.

Well don't feel bad, I have medical conditions that effect the way my brain works, too - that may be the cause of the wrong path issue. - It definitely is the cause the the memory "holes" at times.

It can be a real pain for a PHI THETA KAPPA with a 4.0 GPA - especially at test time. - I just don't like false info, taking OR giving. So it does bug me when I don't have it right.

Thanks for the feedback & You are welcome...
