I am looking at getting a MacBook Pro along with 2 external monitors (DVI). Is it possible for the laptop to send out 2 video signals through 1 DVI port? I would probably not be using the built in LCD while in this mode. If it is possible, where would I get a DVI splitter since the laptop only has 1 DVI port?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

You may wish to contact Matrox, which makes the DualHead2Go and TripleHead2Go adapters and see if they work with the Apple MacBookPro.

Gefen ( http://www.gefen.com ) makes a wide variety of adapters/extenders/converters for these kinds of purposes, although I must ask if you mean to duplicate your signal, or gain further extended desktop? Also, do you need to duplicate single or dual mode DVI (dual is needed for the high resolution supported by the 30" display)?

Here's something you might consider off the Gefen site. Further questions? Ask! Best!

I am planning on having higher res, NOT the same thing on 2 monitors.

I am still (unfortunately) stuck in the world of VGA and know very little about DVI.

Hope that helps.

It does help. Extended desktop on the Apple laptops is only currently supported with one monitor. It's possible that at some point in the future, when a video card is released to fit the Mac Book Pro's ExpressCard/34, one will be able to further extend the desktop, from two to three monitors.

For multi-monitor use, a great option to consider is a G5 tower, into which you can install many video cards, the only material limiting factor to how far you can extend your desktop (anyone for 5 monitors??).

There is a company offering multiple monitor support via an add-on component, Digital Tigers, the unit is here:

http://www.digitaltigers.com/sidecar.shtml

It works with up to 4 monitors for Windows, and 2 for Mac. We have not tried it ourselves, and it's worth a look. Hope this is helpful!
