| In the last several days, when I tried to connect to my ISP I got an error message - Error 711. I rebooted but still got the same error. I then shut down and turned off the power for a short time After booting up again the error did not repeat. My ISP support says the problem is probably a defective modem. I had no problem for several days and then got the same error again. This time just rebooting cured the problem. Should I just replace the modem? The modem is a Soft V92 Data Fax Modem. My OS is XP SP2.

To Zlim:
Thanks, followed that procedure, After some time I'll see if the fix worked since the problem was intermittent. |

Unfortunately, this morning I got the 711 error message again and had to reboot. I ran services.msc and the settings were as described in the KB except for the Remote Access Auto Connection service which I set to Manual but not started since I don't like the fact that it interrupts me when I'm disconnected from the net and doing other things. I don't think this difference
can be the cause. Any other suggestions? |
