Things like this are why I don't suport the bail out idea in the States. Rather than come up with something new to make a profit they are protesting about losing the goverment teat. Socialisim is a bad idea and just leads to dependance on government. |

this is a subsidy for a minority. The annoying thing is that the farmers that are subsidised aren't the poor hard working sons of the soil that you might expect.
The number of government ministers, opposition spokespersons and just plain MPs who own farms and collect these subsidies is quite amazing. Then there are the farms that are corporately owned.......Reform of the European Agricultural System is recognised as long overdue......but can you get turkeys to vote for xmas?

About $35 billion is paid in subsidies to US farmers.
As 72% of this is paid to 10% of US farmers this is also overdue for reform.

hhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm...........................Your taking billions of dollars and giving it to someone who didn't earn it in order to make things more equal..............................................................Definition of Socialism.
And what you just laid out is a very good reason why we hear in the States shouldn't start bailing out banks, auto industries, or any corporation.
When the critters line up at the feeding trough who do you think gets fed first? It won't be the ones that need it, they get what's left over. |

Many of us have been working for a long time to stop the handouts and give aways. Our problem has been and still is Washington DC. |
