|

I recently purchased a used graphics card for my Inspiron8600 because I wanted better performance than the card that came with it.
The card is an Nvdia Quadro FX GO 1000, which is apparently highly rated. It is not, however, clear from the NVidia website which driver to use with this card. It is also listed as Dell part number p1937.
Anybody have suggestions or definitive information?
Thanks |

Hello,
You might want to try this nVidia Quadro FX device driver for Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP and see if that works with your nVidia Quadro FX GO 1000-based video card.

Thanks for the suggestion. As you probably have noticed, they dont' mention my card exactly on the website. I have already downloaded a file called 84.63_forceware_mobile_winxp2k... and a file called 162.18_forceware_winxp... With your suggestion I have three files to try. Since I don't have the board yet, I can't report on success or failure just yet. I am attracted by the file that mentions "mobile" even if it is a lower numbered file. And your file looks good because it mentions "Quadro".
I am doing a ghost backup of this computer before I delete all the NVidia drivers and try to start over. Hopefully the drivers will recognize the card and complain if it is the wrong one.
I wish the NVidia website had a place to ask dumb questions. |

You might also want to give the NVIDIA Forums a try (but please post back here if you get a response there - it might help other gnomies experiencing similar problems).
Cheers |

Thanks for all the suggestions. Ultimately they prodded me in the right direction.
Apparently NVidia does not independently support these boards. They depend on Dell to supply support. (according to the NVidia discussion forum)
If you go to the Dell website, and do some digging in the "support" area, you will find the proper drivers, and a very nice discussion forum. Typing the name (correctly)(they do not have Google's flexibility) in the the support search window may get you there. |

| Just a bit of further follow up. The board arrived today. Install went smoothly. Scary how much they pack into one of those laptops. Installing the driver went smoothly, although the driver said it was for a Dell Precision M60. The form factor is exactly the same as for my I8600, and the seller claimed (correctly) that it would work. And it works as well as I had hoped. Thanks for the replies. |
