Hello folks, my problem is this, i downloaded and installed Free download manager from download.com, i installed it in my browser(firefox) i downloaded a few programs but when downloading finished i couldent find the programs anywhere, certainly not on my desktop where id expect them to be, so i uninstalled download manager and tried to download again but i keep getting an error box pop up informing me that download manager has not been installed correctly and if i want to use my browser to download remove "npfdm.dll"file in the plugin directory of your browser. Error code 80040154 . i looked everywhere for the plugin directory to no avail, i also tried reinstalling download manager and uninstalling several times in case of a bad uninstall but nothing seems to shift the error. any help, advice or suggestions that may help me solve this problem will be greatly appreciated. my pc runs on xp pro sp2. Thanks in advance.

If you type in npfdm.dll in the search window from the Start menu it will show you where it resides...
Rather than delete it right away i would copy it to a floppy in case there are other programs dependent on it.
Then delete it and re-boot the machine.
This should solve the problem.

And Welcome to the Forum.

u could also try any of these download managers

star downloader free
fresh downloader free

the best way to set them up is to create a folder for downloads then use the browse button in the download manager to save your files to this folder

also in both of the above download managers u can plug in your AV program so any & all downloads are scanned before u try to execute them ...

The Download manager already IN Firefox is so good that I've never been tempted to use anything else. It also gives you an option to set the download location of your choice. The Desktop is the default. I find this more than just satisfactory.

Adding extra stuff just increases the possibility of more ERROR.

I agree with The Shadow. I have never used a Download Manager and the one that comes woth Firefox is as good as it gets IMHO.

Hello Gentlemen(The Shadow & Gary66), many thanks for your advice, im glad to hear that the firefox download manager is sufficent because its so much easier to use. The trouble is when one sees these highly rated freeware programs its tempting to try them but a lot of them can be more trouble than their worth, especially in the hands of an inexperienced user,
