| I have a business client thats wants a better way to run a dos business program on XP, then the built in shell/emulator that comes with XP. (XP dos' capablity is serverly limited, and will not run the business app properly)
Anyone have any suggestions?

| He may be out of luck ... not all DOS programs work with XP. Have you increased the compatibility settings? Go to the properties of the program or shortcut, select compatibility tab, enable compatibility for Win95 (that's the earliest and least restrictive settings), enable the 256 colors and 640x480 settings. Then cross your fingers!

What's the app? And how badly does it run, if at all? Is it something in common use, or a home-brewed kind of thing? The latter are usually the worst when it comes to compatibility. |

The client is speaking with the programer
Access to business is limited
It is a specific piece of software
I wish I had it at the shop to play with and see if I can tweak it...maybe I'll ask for a copy

Hello,
The developer of the client's custom solution may want to grab a copy of the QFixApp from Microsoft, which helps identify code incompatible with Microsoft Windows XP. It's also included in the much-larger Application Compatibility Toolkit package, which they may want to download after trying QFixApp.
Regards,
