Dial-a-fix is a collection of 'known fixes' created over the past year that really knock out some serious Windows problems, all with one or two clicks.

Freeware at least for now. No installation required.

I just saw this also, and have used other stuff from the lizard before. It sounds good, and I'm gonna give it a try as time allows.

As I understand it, it's sort of a GUI based fix applier - it'll automatically re-register dll's, etc depending on which fix you choose.

Thanks DjLizard!

I've tried it (a little bit) and it works just fine on my system. Now all I've gotta do is wait for something to break so that I can fix it! Smile

Another good find! Thank you!

Not really!
I think this is for WinXP that is BROKE!

Why bother complicating things, especially if your system is working properly???

I wanted to know because I don't run XP on any of my computers so there isn't much point in me downloading it if that's the only OS it works on. I went to the site and looked but I couldn't see any info about an OS requirement.

I am sorry, zlim,
Feelings of guilt came over me after going OFF TOPIC on you.
I went back and snooped around the DAF site and all the discussions and topics at that site seem very WinXP-centric, although I could find no statement that indicated that DAF is compatible with any older WinOS.

No problem. I thought maybe DjLizard would stick his nose in again and tell us the specs.

It works on all versions of Windows from Windows 98 through Server 2003 (only certain functions though, obviously, and it hasn't been thoroughly tested on 2003 but I hear good reports). I should make it more clear on my site, thank you for reminding me. When you use Dial-a-fix on an older version of Windows, certain functions will automatically disable themselves.

Thanks! Since I run 98SE, ME and 2K on several computers, I may kick the tires on your free dial-a-fix program. (I voluntarily help senior citizens sort out computer problems so this might be a good tool to carry with me).

Nice and thorough site, and I look forward to trying out the utilities.

However, I just wonder if the new "valid for" statement isn't just a little bit confusing, as you've left out XP in the main text and only mention it at the end:

"Dial-a-fix works on all versions of Windows from Windows 98 Gold through Windows 2003 Server (but only certain functions work in 98/Me/2k and 2003, with Windows XP having complete functionality)."

Perhaps you could use something like this:

Dial-a-fix works on 32-bits versions of Windows from Windows 98 Gold
through XP. Only relevant functions are active for each version.

I have changed it to:

Dial-a-fix works on all pertinent 32-bit versions of Windows: 98, 98SE, Me, 2000, XP, and Server 2003. Dial-a-fix dynamically disables functions that are not applicable to your version of Windows. The version of Windows with the most Dial-a-fix functionality is currently Windows XP.
