Democracy or Republic ???

Now that we're approaching 2yrs with this miserable election process :
Have you ever discussed the difference between a Democracy and Republic ? The word 'democracy' is tossed around everywhere, but according to this, it is mentioned nowhere in the Constitution ?

I won't vote for anyone who promises to put a stop to this endless election process. They never keep their promises anyway!

I actually have a lot of respect for Newt Gingrich in that he refused to start a campaign so early. In the long run, it ruined any chance he may have had since he was then so far behind everyone else that there was no point in starting, but I have to respect that he stuck to his principles.

Countries with the word Democracy in their name usually aren't.

At the Federal level we are definitely a Republic. As we get closer to "home" it becomes a mix. When it comes to referendums and such we do practice democracy.
