|
|
|
| OK, I have man-flue, so I've probably missed something that would otherwise be painfully obvious
I've recently started using Vista on one of the PC's, and I'm looking for a way to add a 'Delete' button to the toolbar that is shown along the top of the Explorer window.
Not too much to ask, surely? ... I just want to be able to select files or folders within a folder, then delete them with a single click of a button, rather than take the File Menu / Delete option.
Anyone know how please?

| I don't have vista available at the moment to check, but doesn't the delete button on the keyboard work in Vista? Or the right click menu?

I just checked in View/Toolbars/Customize in 2K and there is no option to add a delete button.
If I want to delete many items, I hold down the control key then I start selecting my items (they will be highlighted). When I'm done, on the last item highlighted, I right-click and select delete. That's it. |

Thanks guys ... I'm aware of the right-click / delete option, but this can be very slow / clanky, even to the point of hanging the system, if I have many items selected (which is often the case ... I'm talking hundreds, sometimes thousands)
I'm just trying to get stuff working the way I'd like ... it was an easy option in XP, so why not Vista?
Or is that a naive question? |

You had a delete button in XP in Explorer?
May I ask how you put it there? |

Errr ... sure
Right-click the Explorer toolbar and choose the 'Customise'option, then add the 'Delete' button.
Just wish it was that simple in Vista! |

| hmmm, it isn't there in 2K as a choice so I guess in Vista they went back to the 2K mold. Just another thing that makes Vista less lovable than XP. |

| Hello, did you ever find a solution to your question about adding the delete button to the explorer bar in Vista? This has bothered me for a couple years. |

Hello,
Have you tried using Andreas Verhoeven's AveExplorerButtons to remap the Share button to a Delete button? If so, did that work for you?

Hi goretsky
Was not aware of this potential gem!
Have tried it since your post, and it would seem to be capable of giving me what I want, BUT ... although it installed OK (eventually, after doing an 'enhanced' install, with admin privileges) ... no change
I re-booted, to be met by a warning that it would not work with this version of Explorer (?) ... I'm running Vista, remember?
A quick email to Andreas got me a prompt response ... unfortunately, it will only work with Vista RTM (?)
Not 100% certain of the 'RTM' bit ..... 'Release To Manufacturers', maybe?
A very close miss ... though the good news is that there is every possibility of the software being tweaked sometime soon.
Will post back on here as and when it happens.
Meanwhile ... any more bright ideas, anyone? |

Hello,
Since the program program is on the Ave's Vista Stuff web site and listed on a page with other applications for Windows Vista, I assumed it worked with all versions of Microsoft Windows Vista. "RTM" would refer to the "released to manufacturing" version of Windows Vista, a/k/a Build 6000. Windows Vista Service Pack 1, for example, is Build 6001. Perhaps Andreas Verhoeven will update the program some day to work with SP1.

Yeah!
Found an answer to the problem, at long last ... plus this also gives me many more options within Explorer, integrates fully ... works with Vista ... and it's FREE!
It's called QTTabBar (available at hxxp://qttabbar.wikidot.com/) ... add in the Filetools plugin pack, and suddenly Explorer starts looking much more how I would like it
It's fair to say, the site is still under development, so a little caution, patience and tweaking may be in order, but the end result seems to work well, so I'm happy! |

I'm just curious.....how did you get that link to work with hxxp ?
Firefox doesn't seem to know how to deal with that.
Just curious,

Hi Doc ... not a clue, if I'm honest ... just typed it in as you see it and hit 'submit'.
Glad to have been able to confound you at last! |

Well, when I corrected it..from hxxp to http...it worked ok.
Some browsers may understand "hxxp" but firefox sure as heck didn't!

VISTA
In the QTTabbar there is no delete button either, at least I don't find one. The red cross button BTW is a close window button. I had installed the QTtabbar to have an UP button and hoped to find a delete button. Those guys at MS left alot of good things out in Vista. If you're scrollling through images and other media stuff you can do a lot with just the mouse. I hate it to leave the mouse just to delte some selected files, and the R-click to delete is some waste of time |

Sorry Guy, but you're wrong ... there definitely IS a 'DELETE' button available in there ... it's been an option on three seperate Vista PCs for a while now, and has worked flawlessly since installation. The toolbar is user-configurable, but you need to read the instructions on the website ... it's very simple and straight-forward.
The red 'x' button you refer to (in my set-up) closes all browser tabs (except the current one) within that particular Explorer window.
Good luck ... it really is in their, honest! |

OK, thank you
I almost have it completely the way I want. Since you seem to know alot about the features of this QTTabbar, I'd like you to look at my actual Explorer top bars. How can I get rid of those small arrows in the red circle ?. They are copies of the bigger one's from the QTTabbar. I have no idea how they got there.
Also I'd like to replace the up button with one that looks like the one's from forward and back, a green one for example. The icon for that purpose I can make myself.
