|
|
Hi,
I'm trying to move my Mozilla favourites from one computer to another. I would like to be able to just copy and paste the links, like I can with the IE favourites. But I can't find where the favourites are saved. Does anyone know where Mozilla saves the favourites links? I can't copy and paste from the favourites manager.
I'd rather not have to copy all the addresses, and then paste them into the address field!
If I can't copy the links, is there any way to import Mozilla favourites into IE?
Thanks...

| I'm not sure about Mozilla FireFox, but Mozilla's SeaMonkey saves all the personal stuff (emails, bookmarks etc.) in 'C:\Document sand Settings\'Your user name'\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\'your account name'\'string of numbers and letters.slt'
The 'bookmarks' are in a file called 'Bookmarks.html', along with the email address book - 'abook.mab'
I hope this helps

El,
What you need is a program called "MozBackup". Just Google that name and you'll get 462,000 hits. Take your pick!
If I remember correctly, the program is FREE.
I use it at least once a week to backup all my Firefox info and save it to a second (backup) hard drive. Or back it up to a flash drive for even greater security.
That same backup file, can be copied to another computer with MozBackup on it and then just do a Restore to apply all that info to the second PC.
The whole operation should be pretty much 'painless'.
Good Luck, und auf wiedersehen

1. Grab a floppy disk or a USB thumb drive.
2. Click on Bookmarks then Organize Bookmarks.
3. In the window that pops up, click on File then Export. (Point the export location either to the floppy disk or the thumb drive).
I do this every few weeks so I have a backup of my bookmarks saved.
4. Go to the other computer that is to receive the bookmarks and put in the floppy or the USB drive.
5. Click on Bookmarks then Organize Bookmarks.
6. In the window that pops up, click on File then Import.
It takes a lot longer to type it then it actually does to do it! |

The profile folder is in about the same location as for SeaMonkey.
All the favourites (bookmarks, as Mozilla calls them) are stored in one HTML file! I was looking for a folder with a list of all the links (like for IE). But I don't really care how it's stored, as long as I can access it, and copy it.
The exact location of the profiles varies in Vista and XP. In XP, the location is:
C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[account name]\
In Vista, it's:
C:\User\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[account name]\
For any future readers...
MozBackup seems to be a program, which saves you copying the profile manually (as explained in seaeagle's link). Or does it do more?
Thanks for all the replies, once again

There's a lot more info stored in FF than just the bookmarks. If that's all you want then do as others have said.
But if you want everything stored in FF, then use MozBackup.
It can save Bookmarks, History, Saved Passwords, and of course your own FF setup and options, etc.
Did I not mention it's FREE?

Sorry, I didn't write that clear enough. With 'profile' I meant everything that's stored in the profile folder (bookmarks, add-ons...and whatever else). I don't know if everything is stored in the profile folder. I'll try out MozBackup when I get the chance, and I'll see if I get a different result.
You did mention it's free..twice

Ah, if you want to migrate everything to another computer (as in all bookmarks, addons and themes) then this is what you do:
1. Start/Run and type in %appdata%\mozilla <enter>
2. Copy the FF folder that opens in the explorer window to a floppy or a USB drive
3. Install FF, open then close it. Reopen it to bring up the wizard, press cancel and close FF.
4. Start and type in %appdata%\mozilla <enter>
5. Rename the folder, maybe FFimport and copy from the floppy or USB drive to the location.
6. Open FF and it should appear exactly as it did on the other computer. |

Thanks for that information. For now, I'm happy with just the bookmarks , but I'll keep it in mind for future (and I'll still try MozBackup).
