If it's YOUR computer, you probably don't need UAC, you can just shut it OFF.

That's just step one in a long list of things to do to make a Vista or Windows 7 PC more user friendly and not drive the user crazy.

On my very first Vista install, my customer said "What's that? Do I have to see that all the time?" when UAC first reared its ugly head.
At that time, I didn't know how to disable UAC so my answer was "Yes".

I don't give a hoot, how many people say that UAC is needed. We've never needed it in all the years we've had "MS Windows" and people don't want to see it now.

If using UAC increases your comfort level, then by all means leave it on, but it just aggravates the heck out of me so I'm turning it OFF. OK?

Computer Security is one of my "things", and I run a chorus of top flight Security Software to keep my HD clean and my PC secure.
Actually I'm on my XP-Pro PC right now and there is no UAC and my PC is very secure indeed.
Visduh will never be my OS of choice and Win-7 won't be for some years to come, so the UAC thing is no big deal for me personally.

Y'all have a great day now, Y'hear?

That's your prerogative. I prefer to keep it on. Smile

Hello,

User Account Control is one of the building blocks of Windows Vista's (and Windows 7's) security. Disabling it reduces the security of your computing environment and increases not just the attack surface for malicious code, but the likelihood that a poorly-written or misbehaving application could interfere with normal system operation.

I have set up a few computers running the release candidate of Microsoft Windows 7, and one of the things I change on them is to restore UAC to its Vista-level of functionality.

Regards,

We've discussed all that before.

Cool

drwho07 is right shut it off. shut off windows defender. shut off windows firewall. shut off windows security center.

i have winpatrol, counterspy, and zonealarm internet security that will prompt me accordingly in vista. in the win 7 rc i am using these with the exception of zonealarm. currently zonealarm does not work with win 7, so i am using kaspersky internet security suite and find it to be very similar to zonealarm.

avoid running any security apps from microsoft. they have a very poor track record with security apps.
