My computer stopped recognizing my mouse about a day ago after i restarted it. Its done it before but i was able to fix it just by running windows in safe mode. This time however, I wasn't able to fix it. I have another mouse that i hooked up and tried but that didn't work either so I'm guessing its my computer. I need to know how to get my computer to recognize it cause its really annoying trying to do everything using only a keyboard. Please help!

It sounds like there might be a problem with your P/S 2 port. Turn on the computer and enter the BIOS (presenting F1 may do it or your screen may tell you what to press to enter set as it boots up). Check to be sure that the P/S 2 port is enabled in the BIOS.
If it is once the computer boots up, see if you can get to device manager and look to see what is under the input devices. |

Hello,
What brand and model of mouse do you have, and which version of Microsoft Windows is your computer running?

| Its the same mouse that came with my computer which is an eMachines(honestly the best computer I ever used). The model name of the mouse is SAGM002. And I'm running XP Home. |

Doing a google for your drivers showed 3 or 4 forum results of probs with that device...
It is a NewGen_SAGM002.
With the price of mice i'd just buy a new one...

Well, I sure hope that solves the problem. Because if your PS/2 port for your mouse on the motherboard is damaged, you are either goign to have tu switch to an USB mouse or replace the motherboard, since using a soldering iron to put a new PS/2 port on the motherboard is not going to be easy and voids warranty.
Could you check if none of the pins on the PS/2 plug are missing?

I checked and all the pins are there and inline. I hope its not the PS/2 port but just incase when I buy a new mouse I'll be sure to get a USB one.
Thanks everyone! |

Hello,
When you obtain a replacement mouse, you may wish to get one that works with both the PS/2 and USB ports. You can then use it to help troubleshoot the problem--if the new mouse works in the PS/2 port, then it was likely a problem with the old mouse. If the new mouse doesn't work in the PS/2 port, then it was likely a problem with the port.
