I bought it like this hoping to fix it. I have succesfully fixed 4 lcd monitors lately, with some help from this forum
I opened this monitor up and thought the sheets may have been put in the wrong way around.
The top and bottom backlights seem ok and shine brightly when the monitor is opened and powered on.
Smile now I am wondering the order of the sheets in the monitor should go back in.
I had some help at the local forum but am still left wondering.
There is the 5mm perspex sheet, a white sheet which I think and was advised it should go behind the perspex and go in first. Then there is 2 greyish sheets and what I think may be the polarizing sheet which reflects more turned one way around.
At the moment the white sheet is in the back, then the perspex sheet and then I guessed the other 3 sheets but the screen is darker than the dark shade it was before I started trying to fix it...
I guess the problem is not the sheets after all that but now I need to know which order to put the sheets in.
I do not know if the sheets were all in the original TFT monitor but probably were.
Help is greatly appreciated Smile

Hello,

A light polarization problem, perhaps? Try rotating the various sheets 180° at a time to see if that makes any difference.

Smile ...and this time I take the monitor apart I hope to remember to leave it apart and test it ...lol...
The backlight tubes seem to be burned at the ends but not in the middle and seem to burn brightly but my experience with them is little.
The backlight tubes have connectors labelled CF and I have 2 other backlights with connectors labelled AGA7. Do you think they can be interchangeable?
***thanks alot..... Smile

Hello,

I'm not particularly familiar with the internals of LCD monitors, so I am not certain. Perhaps one of the other forum members can make some suggestions.

I think polarizing filters are 90 degree devices. That is, if you rotate 180 degrees, you are back where you started. If you rotate 90 degrees you get to the cross polarized state.

The backlight tubes had a lining of foil which came unstuck and curled in front of the tubes. I guess that trapped heat and burning started. That seems to have weakened the tubes because the screen is still dark...
I did try trimmming the foil but the screen is still dark.
.. I will try to remember to test the monitor while it is still apart the next time...gee...I must remember...I must remember... Smile
What I have is a broken screen which I dismantled and removed the backlight tubes and they are not burned so will swap the tubes and see if the screen is still dark.
