Windows 7(Home Premium) 64Bit, IE8 32Bit, Windows Live Mail; Plenty of RAM & HHD space; Norton Internet Security Suite, Ver: 17.5.0.127

HPE-180t, Intel(R)Core(TM)i7 CPU 975 DeleteThis @3.33GHz; RAM:12GB, 2 External USB 500/1TB Hard Drives (NTFS), Ext USB DVD/CD/BD ROM drive, Windows Malicious SW Removal Tool, HiJackThis, Registry Mechanic 8.0.0.900, Advanced System Care, Immunet Anti-Virus.

I have not been able to see or determine an established pattern for when "Clicking on a link in a forum, blog, or web page, the link will not open". If the link is right clicked, copied and pasted into the address bar it will work. I believe it is due to an obscure Security setting that might require an adjustment, but do not know where to start. I did not notice it happening for some time but one of the things I did afterwards, was to test my computer at some of the sites that offer to test your computers security, such as Spend right, and nothing ever got pass my security setup. Having a work-around, keeping my computer safe on the internet does have priority. Being safe on the Web and having all clicked links working, assuming the links are not broken is preferable. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I checked that link and it worked for me.
The answer was
Quote:
To unblock a site in IE8 follow these steps:
Open Internet Explorer.
Click on Tools and select Internet Options.
Click on the Security tab.
Select Restricted Sites
Click on Sites
Click on the web address that you want to unblock and select Remove.

Hi, an thanks for the reply kenmabmcc. My additional question for you would be - if you had clicked on that link, and it had not worked, an you had right clicked the link, copied and pasted it into your address bar where it did work, what would you have thought was going on?

Create a restore point or back up the registry then try the fix here
http://iefaq.info/index.php?action=artikel&;cat=42&id=133&artlang=en
ie8-rereg.32on64.zip: for 32bit IE8 on 64bit Windows I believe is the version that applies to you.

This will re-register things. This page shows you the batch file.

Hello,

Is JavaScript being filtered or disabled by any of your security software? Sometimes, HTML (web pages, email and so forth) contain embedded JavaScript around the links to web site addresses in them in order to perform actions when the cursor moves over them (bolding or highlighting text, displaying additional information and so forth) or to implement tracking for advertising purposes. If JavaScript is disabled or being filtered, this can affect those links.

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky

I would not have the foggiest idea as my computer skills are very limited

If I have a problem, I google it, and can usually find an answer.

SUCCESS: Thank you very much Zlim the IE8-rereg.32 on 64.zip did the trick for my Win7 Home Premium. I was even able to open the Link I had posted as an example, with a double clik. Goretsky I appreciate your input and kenmabmcc your skills are still way beyond mine. However, that file must be run as an Administrator. For me, that presented another problem I did not know I had, so I'll be back. Thanks again everyone.

It worked fine on my computer too, but I notice two major problems on your computer that I don't have on mine.
1...you use IE8. Rolling Eyes
Very few people do that any more. Most use Mozilla Firefox like I do.

2...You have Norton on your computer. Very few knowledgeable computer users do that any more. It's well known as bloatware and ineffective as a reliable security program. I remove it wherever I find it and replace it with AVG 9.0 FREE.

Fix those two problems and you probably won't have any more problems.

good luck,
Doc
