I have posted here before under a different username(RichardC) . I couldn't get that username to work, so I am using my Newsarama messageboard name. Anyway.

I keep getting messages that pop-up on my screen that say(this is not a direct quote) "You need to clean your registry, Log on to www.sys32win.com to fix the problem."

I recently had to reinstall my Windows version on my computer. I after I did that I got this problem.

I download a trail version of Registry Mechaniac and ran it. It found 146 problems and I hit the Auto repair button. It fixed 19 of the problems. Then it told me in order to fix the rest I would have to purchase it online.

I am cheap and would rather not buy it unless I absolutely have to.

any assistance will be greatly appresciated.

Thanks

Hello,

As Slappy Da Clown noted, there may be some sort of adware on the computer.

You may wish to download a copy of the HijackThis program, run it, and post the resulting log file in the HijackThis Logs section of the forum. One of the experts there can take a look at it and assist you with removing the malicious software from the computer.

Regards,

STOP! You're infected!

AdAware SE/Personal and Spybot Search & Destroy is the bare minimum Anti-Spyware software that you should be using and updating Daily on your PC, to stay safe from Spyware.
Add to that, "SpywareBlaster" for great Spyware blocking and you've got some pretty darn'd good protection.
The first two programs can find and remove almost all spyware from your PC.
On my own PC I've added to that "Trojan Hunter" and window's own "Windows Defender" (Beta version).
With this kind of protection, I just don't get Spyware. Period!
Here's my whole arsenal of protection software that I both use myself and share with all my customers, to keep us all safe from Spyware, Viruses, Trojans, worms, etc. etc.
*************************************
These are the programs I use every day to keep my own PC spotlessly clean.
I suggest every person having any Virus or Spyware issues get these programs
and use them immediately.
Do check for updates to all your security software on a DAILY basis.

SPYWARE/Trojan BLOCKERS/REMOVERS:

Trojan Hunter, is a first class Trojan Horse Virus removal program.
The dowloaded version is a 30 day, Fully Functional, free trial.
Use the Free Trial to clean up a Dirty system or buy the retail license to have a year of
full service plus updates. Download "Trojan Hunter" here:
http://www.misec.net/trojanhunter/
From the web page, just click "Download Free Trial Version"
It's a 5.9 meg download.

Spybot Search & Destroy, a great anti Spyware program.
Can be downloaded from:
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_desc...id,22262,00.asp
For instructions on how to set up Spybot for best operation,
See my Spybot Setup instructions on this webpage.

AdAware SE/Personal. Another top notch anti Spyware program.
Can be downloaded from:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html

Spyware Blaster, a great Spyware Blocker.
Protects both I.E. and Mozilla Firefox.
Can be downloaded from:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2859.html

ANTI-VIRUS PROTECTION:

AVG 7.1 FREE:
World famous AVG FREE will keep your computer free of viruses, trojans, dialers, etc.
By default, it updates and scans for viruses on a daily basis.
Can be downloaded from:
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/
Save to your desktop and run the install from there.
Immediately get updates. More than one may be required.

Stinger: Stand Alone Virus Scanner
Check for new version, once a week.
Can be downloaded from:
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
Save to your Desktop and run from there.

vCleaner, Stand Alone Virus Checker from Grisoft.
Can be downloaded from:
http://www.infinitevelocity.com/tips/tips_vcleaner.htm
Save to your Desktop and run from there.

REGISTRY CLEANER:

Easy Cleaner, the best Registry Cleaner I've found so far.
It's FREE, effective and easy on your Registry. It will not remove
things you may need.
Easy Cleaner can be downloaded from:
http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm
Personal Website = (http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts).
Just scroll down to "Download & Installation" and click on the first floppy disk symbol.

FIREWALL:

The XP windows firewall is only a 50% firewall, blocking incoming hackers but doing nothing to stop any ET that's already on your PC from "Phoning Home". It seems like almost every program you install anymore, wants to "Phone Home". It's a good idea to NOT allow this activity. My suggested Firewall to prevent this activity is the FREE version of a world famous product called "Zone Alarm".
ZA can be downloaded from:
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/cata...lid=dbtopnav_za

****************************************

It's obvious to even the most casual viewer that you're infected by something and very lacking in effective Anti-Spyware protection.

We can suggest, recommend and advise, but only you can take the needed steps to get the protective software you need, update it and run it often to stay safe.
Other than that, we'll help you all we can.

Good Luck,
The Doctor

Replying just to "I need to clean my registry?"

Yes you DO need to clean your registry. Everyone does.
I do this for my customers on every call.

The fastest, most efficient and Safest program I've ever used is
"Easy Cleaner". It will clean your registry and remove all the
out-of-date, redundant and just plain bad stuff without ever harming
your registry. I trust it completely.

Then just like defragmenting your Hard Drive, you need to also Defrag
your registry once it's been cleaned. The best program to do this (safely)
is "NTREGOPT.exe".

You can find both "Easy Cleaner" and "Ntregopt.exe" on my Download Site.

Any program advertised by popup or banner ad is 99% of the time, spyware, adware or a Trojan.
Don't fall for it.

Any program that tells you that you have problems that it won't fix till you send them money, is also BOGUS!
I bought one of them programs once and every time "Trojan Hunter" ran, it flagged that program as a trojan.
Well, don't you know, I've removed that program from my computer. NEVER AGAIN!

Be Safe, Be Happy!
