| I respectfully disagree - how is adding scanners to our mail system "changing society"? Nothing in how we live our lives changed, whereas if abortions were stopped, that would be a big change. I don't know of a single restriction on freedom that was a result of the anthrax attacks.
I should add that I think foreign terrorists have different political goals - they don't want us to change our society per se like an abortion clinic bomber, they want us to either not "interfere" with them, or cease to exist.

Maybe not for you. Prior to anthrax and mail bombs (Also terrorism I believe) I used to be able to put a bunch of stamps on a box and drop it in one of those big postal boxes. Now, I've got to take time out of work, stand in line, and drop it off personally. As a result, I don't sell stuff on eBay anymore. It's just a pain.
How would stopping abortion clinics change anything for me .... or maybe even you? I've never been in one. Never needed one. Will never need one. If they all closed tomorrow, it wouldn't effect me at all. It wouldn't effect most of the population at all. I suspect that changes in the postal system effect a LOT more people than abortion clinics. |

If a sniper were picking people off around me I would have my own weapon close at hand and hope his aim was worse than mine. . |
How often do you walk around with a sniper rifle? What weapon could you possibly use to shoot a sniper at a great distance? |
You never cease to amaze EJ despite the fact you'd think I would be used to your hallucinations by now. Please read what I wrote again and explain to me where I said anything about a sniper rifle or even walking around with any weapon. Not to mention I was being facetious when I wrote it. In all reality its more than likely I would be down before I even knew there was a sniper in a real case.
What weapon could I use to shoot a sniper at a great distance? The DC sniper actually made most of his kills from a relatively close distance. I have qualified on the shooting range with a pistol at 100yards which puts me within range to return fire in his case. I also do carry a scoped .308 rifle in my truck for those occasions when I have to take out snipers at a greater range and I am qualified with it to 1000+yards. Anything beyond that and he's got me for sure . Don't forget I'm from the South and one of those bitter Americans still clinging to his guns. |

I'm not going to nit pick endless scenarios here. Like I said earlier there are a couple of defintions of terrorism listed in this thread and they say pretty much the same thing about what constitutes a terrorist act. In other words it is not the act itself that makes it terrorism so much as it is the motive behind the act. The DC sniper was looking for money, we have no idea what the motives were for the other two attacks. To quote a common thread in both definitions
| Quote: |
| The motives of all terrorists are political, |
Of these three there is no clear political purpose. Now for your latest example, attacks on abortion clinics and doctors, there is a clear political motivation. To change the legal status of abortion in this country and to do so through intimdation and fear. That rises to the level of terorism as defined by the definitions so yes it would be an act of terrorism. It doesn't say anywhere in the definitons that the political purpose has to be something relevent to Ej, or CowpokeBob, or anyone else or that the act needs to be comitted by a foreign entity or on foreign soil. Instead of trying to twist the acts to fit the definition simply apply the definition as its written and if you think it fits call it terrorism. I did that and I stated my decisions clearly to all 4 cases. You don't have to agree with me, obviously the FBI doesn't. If you have any oher examples I would be happy to compare them to the definition and render a verdict on them as well. |
