Right click my computer > click properties > click advanced >click settings button under performance > click advanced > click change.
Set initial size to 1500 and max size to 2000.
This will allow Windows to increase your virtual memory to a maximum of 2GB. Try the game again.
Also run chkdsk on your hard drive.
Opem My Computer > right click on hard drive > click properties > click tools > click check now > tick both options and restart the computer. On next boot up the hard drive will be scanned for errors and damage. |

What cards would be recommended for COD2? Perfer not breaking the bank. THX
|
The 6600GT 128/256mb is a nice mid-range card that doesn't cost a whole lot. I run on a pretty mid-low range cpu (P4 2.4) but COD2 works nicely with this card... dare I say without the directx error
So, occasionally the game is nice enough to tease me with DX9.0c functionality but that certainly doesn't last very long... what I'm getting at is that even running the game on a p4 2.4Ghz 1Gb/333Mhz ram, my video card still delivers with playable frame-rates (no AA, Extra texture res, high normal res, high specular res) 1280x1024, no-shadows. I think my system for COD2 is only truly limited by the older components.
BTW, I don't think the DX9.0c error is associated with this particular card considering the multitude of people experiencing difficulties with a broad-spectrum of high-end cards.
Just stick with the goliath makers such as Nvidia or ATI and you won't have these issues in future. They post drivers on a monthly basis and games manufacturers rarely bother adding support for minor video card makes.
Hope this advice helps. |

Did you perform the hard drive scan?
Have you tried installing it on another drive? |

Yup i did both but i finnally figured it out the new Nvidia Driver 85.19 or whatever kills Geforce 6800's yeah not a permenant thing but they only way to fix it is to use driver cleaner in safemode to get rid of all its components then install the 77.77 vid drivers. |

Intel integrated graphics card are not capable of running the game, so you'll need to upgrade your graphics card. |

"QUOTE"2 - You get disk read errors or insert CD/DVD error messages when you try and run the game.
This can be caused by CD/DVD cloning software such as Alcohol 120%, Clone CD/DVD, Daemon tools etc.
Uninstall the cloning software or disable emulation in the cloning software and try again.
If that doesn't work try setting the transfer mode of the CD/DVD drive PIO only mode."QUOTE"
how do you check for emulators and how do you change the transfer mode to PIO only mode?
in dire need of help pls reply. |

Hello homicidal goat and welcome to Lockergnome!
The easist way to check if you have CD/DVD cloning software is to look through the start menu or the add/remove programs list in control panel.
Instructions for 2000/XP:
To change the transfer mode right click My Computer > click properties > click ardware > click device manager > click the + sign to expand the tree on IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS, double click primary IDE controller > click advanced settings change the transfer mode on device 1 to PIO only.
If it's greyed out then your CD/DVD drive isn't on the primary IDE so exit that and try device 0 on the secondary IDE controller.
Also worth trying is using a different CD/DVD drive. |

Do you have another DVD drive you can try?
Have you tried updating the firmware of the DVD drive? The firmware is available on the manufacturers website. |

If it's not on their site then they haven't got an update.
Try a different DVD drive. |

Hello,
I have been trying to install COD2 collectors edition and have had trouble.
When I insert disk 1 I can hear the CD player working but than a sort of clicking noise and the CD player stops. It does this repeatedly until the whole CD drive stops. In 'My Computer' it does not even show the disk as in the CD drive, but it does give me the option to eject it.
I'm getting desperate and I don’t know what to do
If someone could help I would be very thankful

Yeah, I figured that out after a while. I think I need to get a DVD drive.
Does the non-collectors edition need a DVD drive?
Thanks  |
