| ruffaz it seems that we both have a similar setup...with me too the only setting i cannot change without an error is the driectx option it is set at directx 7 for rendering and if i move it to anything else i get an error...does anyone know why this is happening?? i mean im playing cod 2 fine right now just with directx 7 rendering...i want directx 9! hopefully nvidia will fix this if its there problem or activision will fix it if its their problem...

| Hey guys,
I get the 'Video card or driver doesn't support alpha blending' error. I assume this is because I got the S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR? Only option buying a new video card?

Hello and welcome to Lockergnome WCV!
Your graphics card isn't supported by the game so a new graphics card is in order unless of course your using a laptop in which case you can't upgrade the graphics card. |

Hey grunge who knows?
A vertex buffer is a way of sharing rendering info between the GPU (on your video card) and the CPU. For some reason on certain configurations of directx hardware, the code they've written to distribute this info is making our systems freak out.
I pity the programmer who has to trace this one back.... Like I said, no fix here. Wait for a patch. |

Ok all fixed.
[crossposting across a few forums because it's the only fix I've ever seen, apart from the fluke with the 77.7 nvidia driver dude.]
I had probs with the puter so I formatted and reinstalled. Just as an experiment I installed a slipstreamed xp with sp1, to see if would make a difference, and it fixed it right up. NO more directx errors. It'd be interesting to see how many people with this problem are running Service Pack2, because if they all are, then Microsoft broke the game.

I can play COD2 as an admin. but cannot under another users name on the same computer. When I try and play it gives the following file write error...
"Call of Duty® 2 couldn't write a file. The hard drive is probably full."
Thoughts? Ideas?
BTW...very nice forum. |

Hi, I've had CoD 2 since christmas and i just want to finish single player, I finish the russian campain, Then i get to the last level of the british campaign, It comes up with the levels name, displays the objectives then just crashes my whole pc, Any ideas why?
|
Hi there, I have EXACTLY the same problem as this guy. On single player, I finish the Russian Campaign, and then finish the British Campain, and then it crashes to a blue screen which freezes my PC and when I reboot, it says the system has recovered from a serious error. When I go back into the game all my save games have gone. Its curious we both have exactly the same issue at the same point in the game despite the game being perfect up to this exact point (I have reached this point twice and the same thing happened on both occasions).
Any help would be much appreciated.
I have a Toshiba Laptop
1.8 GHZ Pentium M
1 GB of RAM
Radeon x700 256MB dedicated RAM |

So I finally got the Call of Duty 2 and installed it but when I try to run it I also get the message: "Your video card or driver does not support alpha blending"!!! Now in the requirements on the back of the COD II box it says SUPPORTED CHIPSETS are among others: ATI Radeon 9600! so since I have ATI Radeon 9600 Pro I though that I will not have any problems but I was wrong. How can they say that ATI Radeon 9600 is supported when it is not!?
My question is then, does anyone have a easy sollution? a link to some fix? new driver? or anything helpfull? This is irritating since all my other games work just fine like the Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood or the 3D game Rome: Total War. So personally I think it is stupid of the developers to make such tricky and bad requirements/instructions. Better support from them should also be provided.
It is really irritating that for a silly $50 dollar game I might have to upgrade my alreaddy upgraded one year old Graphics Card which will cost again about $150 - $299. |

What does the blue screen say?
Are there any errors in your application and system logs around the time of the crash?
Have you tried lowering your resolution and/or changing to DirectX 7 mode? |

I got call of duty 2 just the other day and hav installed it on my computer. It runs the opening videos (activision, infinity ward, and the call of duty 2 vid) and then at the end of the cod video it fades to a black screen, where it plays music but nothing comes up on the screen. it just stays black. if you wait about a minute the background image comes up.. like u know with the gun, bullets, map, grenade etc. all lying on the table but there is no text or anything. i can press the directional buttons on my keyboard and it makes a sound like it is on a typewriter or something.. i press enter and it makes the same sort of noise but no action.. anyway.. its realy frustrating.. i only got a new nvidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics card a week or so ago.. all the drivers are installed.. i hav 1GB of RAM.. Pentium 4 2.4GHz processor.. everything that is required if not better.. and it wont work. Why? Why? haha any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.. because im so angry.
Thanks |

to add to the frustration, sometimes wen i click on the icon to open it from the desktop or wherever it comes up with the call of duty splash image and freezes for about 2 minutes.. wen i go into task manager it says that call of duty is not responding.. then all of a sudden afta about 2 minutes it maraculously starts playing the intro videos.. but then once it gets to the menu the same problem as above.. any help ever so greatly appreciated.. im in desperate need.
thanks to any1 |

Hello Natey and welcome to Lockergnome!
First of all the Geforce 5200 graphics card isn't the fastest thing in the world.
Have you tried lowering the resolution and quality settings?
Have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers? (link on my signature). |

Hi.
I've been playing COD 2 since it came out without any problems at all.
Just this week it's been giving me problems. I can play in multiplayer for hours and suddenly while switching maps it'll crash my comp, as in bring it down all the way, no display, motherboard making a weird "boo doop" alarm sound. It's not the overheat alarm, that one's different plus the software for the board shows that it's running cool enough. Have to flip the main power on the back off & on then hit the power button to restart. Windows doesn't report any errors. Checked the logs in the Administrative Tools and no errors there.
This first started when a server suddenly switched between 3 maps real fast, the owners were trying to pick a map to play. Now it's doing it at random, though I can get at least 2-3 hours of play time in. When it goes to change maps it just happens sometimes.
No clue as to what is causing it. The only thing that's different is it now has the extereme+ mod installed (by servers), and it ran for 2 weeks with that mod without any problems. Any ideas as to what is going on and how to fix it? Here's the system specs:

BTW, I should mention that C: is not my primary HD, F: is, and COD2 is installed on F: so it shouldn't be a vmem problem. Also belarc doesn't see my DVD Writer on there but that's ok.
No other applications have given this problem in the past, and don't do so now. It's just CoD 2, and it only crashes the comp when it's loading maps. If all else fails I'll just reinstall the game but seeing if there isn't something I can do before resorting to that.
Any help you can give would be appreciated, thanks. |

2 beeps, same intermediate length but with different sounds. Doesn't sound like normal POST beeps so I'm guessing it's something A-Bit put into the motherboard. They're not the "claxon/siren" sound that it makes in case of an overheat.

Hey Dudes,
I’ve different problem with COD 2. Every time I run it gives me this error below...
----- Client Initialization -----
----- Initializing Renderer ----
Mismatched REF_API_VERSION: expected 59, got 60
-------------------------------
Error during initialization:
Failed to initialize renderer: version mismatch.
If update graphics card drivers. Uninstalled COD 2, deleted the COD 2 folder in Program files and reinstalled. Installed direct x 9c off the DVD and I download to be sure direct x. But still gives me the error. I’ve no problems running any other game.
