Well, it's not for me.............but then I'm far from the uninitiated.

Usually when a malware removal expert is walking you through the process, he will ask you to run Combo Fix and then post the log to the forum so he can go over it, looking for the bad stuff.

You really should go to the HJT section in this forum and post your problem where our own expert can lead you through the process.

Doc Cool

EDIT:
For those reading this in the future, I want to stress, that the program name Virsoft was given in error and should have been Nirsoft.
Sorry, Virsoft, accidents do happen.
But we're always glad to post corrections wherever possible.

Success! Very Happy The tech support forum finally got me straightened out.

Doc,
I wasn't aware there was such a thing as an HJT section here. Next time I'll try that since this is the best forum on the web.

Thanks for the posts guys!

zlim,
Don't really know. The techs had me run four or five different programs sending them the log for each one. After the last one the tech said it looks like I was clean. Didn't say which virus if he knew. They are backed up with requests. It took two days for them to get to me. I noticed there was about fifty posts after mine so I didn't take up any more of his time.
It works and I have installed a different virus program than the one I was using.

We have one of the very best anti-malware experts right here on this very forum.
Just post your problem in the "Hijack This Log" section.
It's a Sub-Forum under Problem Solvers.

You will need the latest versions of "HiJack This" and "Combo Fix".

I read a HiJack This log that someone posted a few days ago and the RUN on startup list would not even fit on my 19" screen.
That's absolutely ridiculous !!
NO-One needs that much crap starting up when they boot their PC.
In my own RUN list, there are only two programs.
That's, AVG and my UPS Monitor program.

What really get my goat is that the "HJT Experts" don't tell people "Clean up your mess" or something like that, to minimize the garbage running in the background on their PC's. If it's not blatant Malware, they pass right over it.
They totally ignore all those reminders, schedulers, updaters, etc.
Cheeeeech !!!!

I'll quit now, before I start to RANT !!! (probably wouldn't be the first time)

I run malwarebytes on my windows computers. I have the paid version on my husband's simply because, although he is pretty good, he might click a poisoned link on a trusted site. The paid version monitors in real time.
I've been reading that quite a few folks got infected by a poisoned link on the Drudge Report site. It was encouraging to read a poster who said she clicked the link and malwarebytes prevented the page from loading. (Not the Drudge Report but the page the link took you to). As I said, even so called trusted sites can have infected links and not know until quite a few people catch something. I don't want to be one of those who catches the virus/trojan/worm of the day!

After reading back over this thread, I observed that Virsoft became Nirsoft.

Those are two entirely different companies.

Just an observation,

Yes. I apologize to nirsoft since everyone here tells me it is an OK site. It was that site I was visiting when the virus showed up. If I knew how I would change the title.

The title is probably OK, as that's the name that's in question as I scan the net.
I saw no adverse comments about Nirsoft.

You say that's the one that gave you the problem? and not Virsoft?

May I suggest, going back into each post, perform an EDIT and remove the name "Virsoft" wherever it appears.
That's only fair, to the guys at Virsoft.

Cool

I don't know that it was that site that gave me the problem, it was the site I was on when things started to go south. Thankfully, when I titled it I got fumble fingered and hit the wrong key. Serendipity?

If you go back to your first post and click EDIT, you will be able to change the wording in the title as well as in the post itself.
EDIT out all references to Virsoft and change to Nirsoft, where applicable.

PostPosted: Sat Sep 12, 2009 7:16 am    Post subject: PLEASE CHANGE THE VIRSOFT TO NIRSOFT

Please change the Virsoft to the application developer name you downloaded which finally was the name of the development company.
When someone types in Google "Virsoft" the 3rd search result is yours that is saying Virsoft software contain viruses and i wasn't able to remove it.....

Please change it as soon as possible

Thank you

Hello,

The message subject was changed several days ago. It may take some time for Google to reflect this, though.

But even if the wrong name shows up in the text, Google will flag it.
Strange how that works.

Virsoft Team,

I hope we've been helpful in correcting the problem.
It sure wasn't intentional.
