Hey folks it's less than a month away from the 5th annual Gnomedex and where's the buzz...

In years past the forums have provided a nice community to get excited about what is upon us...

I for one consider this to be my make or break year for the conference. I'm a grassroots kind of guy and always felt that Gnomedex catered to this audience. There was much ballyhoo last year that the old "grassroots" focus is shifting more towards "how can I make $$$"...

For me GDex 4. 0 still did it and I really enjoyed just hanging out and "geeking" for 72 hours straight but the lack of chatter has me a little concerned.

Let's hopes it's all for naught!

Hello,

The focus of Gnomedex 5.0 will be blogging and podcasting (Adam Curry and David Winer are keynoting) so I believe a logical place to start would be Chris Pirillo's own blog here and, of course, the aforementioned Gnomedex home page.

Regards,

According to
Dr. Winer unspeakably cool things are afoot. Phew, I was worried! Wink

Me, too, and I decided on a whim to go because everything about it really reminded me of AdHoc (aka MacHack) in terms of the "unconference" aspects and community focus. Maybe no midnight keynote, but that's OK, we're not quite so young anymore and that's harder to pull off in this time zone anyways.

Honestly this years "buzz" is about the same as always in my opinion. The years I've attended - I personally never thought this forum was to busy with chatter. Certain websites had information at times. But it seems to me. That every year we don't get the full scope of what will be until about a week before the conference hits. I've always kind of felt this was a negative. But loyalty has always seemed to win the day. Meaning everyone normally just judges things on the previous years experience. They buy a ticket and hope for the best. There are sites out there that have done some write-ups on the conference. Maybe some of those are just off the beaten path. Last year this forum wasn't awash with buzz. The year before it was a little bit busier. My thought is that the current forum traffic might increase a little a few weeks before the show. While the focus of the conference may have shifted somewhat. Is this really anything new? The two years I've attended have each been a little different. I enjoyed both years. But I feel last year had some improvements I was looking for. Even though the audience wasn't as big as previous years. And I did miss a few faces that I'd met the year before.
