Quote:
(CNSNews.com) - President George W. Bush has invited a small bipartisan group of Senate leaders to the White House on Monday, July 11, Sen. Chuck Schumer is telling fellow Democrats.

"During that meeting, he (Bush) will almost certainly discuss potential nominees to the Supreme Court. I think that's an important first step in the process of meaningful consultation, but we must make sure that this is more than just a courtesy call," Schumer said in a message to fellow Democrats.

"Bush must engage in real, meaningful consultation before making any decisions," Schumer is telling "friends" of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

According to the Drudge Report, Schumer, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, recently was overhead on a cell phone, telling an ally, 'We are contemplating how we are going to go to war over this" -- "this" being Bush's upcoming Supreme Court nominee, whoever it may be.

A conservative advocacy group says because of that comment, Schumer should withdraw from the Supreme Court confirmation process.

"He has already acknowledged he won't give any likely nominee a fair hearing," said Tom Minnery of Focus on the Family's political action committee

It looks like Bush is willing to talk and discuss this with the Democrats. Will the Dems step up to the table, or will it be like the hi-lighted part in the above quote??
opinions??

I think that it will be a one sided conversation. Bush will say what he has to say and then the Senators will go back to do what they do best-Obstruction. That is if they even show up.

It doesn't matter what Mr. Bush does to placate the obstructionists - it won't be enough.

I can envision the end of the meeting:

Bush: Mr. Kennedy, I have given you a list of my 100 top candidates for supreme court appointees - don't you find any of them acceptable?

Kennedy: It is the senate's duty to "advise and consent" on a case by case basis. I can't tell you whether any of these would be acceptable before we hold a full hearing.

Bush: Let me make it easier for you. Give me a list of 10 candidates you would find acceptable.

Kennedy: Mr. President (hic), that's ridiculous. It's your job, your duty to appoint supreme court justices. I wouldn't dream of impinging on your duties. Now if you will excuse me it's almost happy hour.

You people make me sick.

Everyone knows the democrats only want the President to have a bipartisan* choice. Just a little cooperation on the presidents’ behalf will do it. If only he would cooperate* with democrats all this bickering and democrat stagecraft would end.

*Bipartisan.. Republicans do what the democrats want.
*Cooperate.. Republicans do what the democrats want.

You're psychic aren't you? I can't envision any meeting ending any other way, unless the President is calling them to the White House to inform them of the indictments that he has the AG file on them.
