Hello again everyone :^)

This time I have a optical drive that isn't co-operating. I have a NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A. In the past I have burned cd's, dvd's and even dvd dl, unfortunately I cannot burn dl dvd's anymore. In fact, the drive doesn't even recognize the blank disks at all!

I did a couple searches and I it looks like that part of the drive is dead. But I am still willing to try for a fix if one is available.

Might any of you know how to resolve this? I know new burners are relatively inexpensive, but every penny saved is a good thing these days.

I went to the NEC website and updated the firmware. Alas, it did not fix it...

I am using Nero 7 Ultra for my burn program if that helps things any.

Hello,

Is the DVD±RW drive recognized in the computer's BIOS? What about if you start the computer in Safe Mode or login as a different user?

Have you tried deleting the registry keys mentioned in this Microsoft knowledgebase article?

CD/DVD drives are multi-function and multi-part.
It's nothing unusual for one part of the drive to go bad while the rest of it, or at least some other part of it still works.

That's been going on almost as long as there has been CD drives.
There are NO field repairs for CD/DVD drives. They are throw away devices.

Get a new one and move on.

Cheers Mate!

Yeah, I figured as much. I tried everything I could find that claimed could help, and still nothing. So I have a new one ordered and I'm done messing with it.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

Hello,

There may still be some uses for it.
