Let's just suppose you could have a blog as part of your membership in Lockergnome forums. Would you be interested? What if we gave you a general topic, like Help blogs, and left it up to you to determine what sort of specific topic you could blog about that would offer help, advice and education to the other gnomies and the non-gnomie readers?

Lockergnome forums were established to offer help and support to anyone who needed friendly technical guidance. That is still their primary function. So if we wanted to reach out to others with the same helpful attitude, but in a different venue and on different topics, would you be willing to join in and blog with us? Is there a tech issue the forums don't fully address, or a social issue you're passionate about, that you'd enjoy blogging about? Let us know.

We have a very dynamic and educated membership. Perhaps it's time to reach beyond what we've done in the forums and offer help in areas we haven't yet considered.

I don't do blogs!!! BUT...your suggestion about general topic areas has piqued my interest. I'd think that it'd start out well, but then like most blogs, it would peter out after a while.

Wouldn't mind giving it a shot tho'!

What price? Did I say price? :w00t:

These would most likely be supported by Lockergnome, no charge to the members.

They charge $10.00 a month know?
I also wouldn't want to boggle the new server down with blogs as well as the Wiki. We will then be back where we started.??

You may be thinking of the Lockergnome.com blogs. This would be seperate from that.

I agree, and that would be something to consider. But most blogs actually use very little disk space. I suspect we could all have a blog and not use near the volume consumed by a single forum here. Still, a point to keep in mind.

Yes I was thinking of the Lockergnome.com blogs. I would prefer to keep a blog seperate from this server/forum.

I certainly understand. I, too, have blogs I intend to keep seperate from anything else I do online.
What I was thinking in regard to these blogs (and Chris and others may have differing opinions) was to make them a more personal extension of the forum. Our own voice, offering assistance or insight on topics that may or may not be "tech" in nature. Someone may want to blog about being a single mom or dad, someone else about just Internet security. Maybe someone loves plants and wants to start a blog for gardeners, or a pet blog (just to mention two of my other passions). Perhaps another gnomie is living with an illness or affliction that they'd like to write about.
True, anyone could do this on their own through Blogger or by using apps like Word Press. But this way you'll also get the attention of Lockergnome readers.

I think it sounds like an interesting idea. Although I'm not a blogger, I would probably consider it myself based on what you've stated. But I'm like Debora. My only interests are computers and critters (all kinds!). Smile

(As a side remark, why won't my posts allow me to double space after the end of a sentence?! :w00t: I've tried everything I can think of on this board and it just won't allow it!)

I don't blog, but if I did, I would find a more independent site to do my writings.

I'm not sure, but there's no setting that permits or disallows that. <---That's a double space. <---That's a triple space. <---Four spaces. Let's see if the software resizes the spaces.

Independent from...? The Lockergnome name? Well, I guess there's always Blogger, a Google brand, or hosting on your own website, using Word Press or Greymatter.

(You're absolutely correct, hooNos. I never paid attention to that before. But like I said, there's no control that can remedy it. I guess we're stuck with the spacing IPB has decided we need. Sad )

Thanks jeber - for a while there I thought I'd forgotten how to type and I used to be a professional! Very Happy I can live with it now I know it's Not me!

Back to the blogging thing - I still think it's a plausible idea.

Hello,

Try using a space character (Alt+32) followed by a null character (Alt+255) to create double (or more) spaces.

There are two spaces after this sentence.  There are three spaces after this sentence.   There are four spaces after this sentence.    End.

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky
