Speaking to reporters on the final day of his tour of the Balkans, Vice President Joe Biden acknowledged the administration still hasn’t figured out what to do with all the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay but predicted that it will still meet its deadline of closing the prison within a year. “I think so,” Biden said, when asked about the January 2010 deadline. “But, look, what the president said is that this is going to be hard. It’s like opening Pandora’s Box. We don’t know what’s inside the box.”
...Asked about what the administration would do with the most dangerous prisoners, Biden said the administration is still trying to determine that. “There’s a lot of speculation (about) detainees who are a real danger who are not able to returned or tried,” Biden said. “But that (number), to the best of my knowledge, has not been established.” ... |
Leave it to Biden to tell the politically-incorrect truth. Obama promised to close Gitmo without having a clue how or what was actually involved.

Gitmo was opened without any thought of closure.
It was opened so the bush administration could deny any rights these prisoners would have,
either under international law or US law.
It seems that many incarcerated there had been sold to the US,
and have little affiliation with the crusade on Muslims...sorry..the "war" on "terror"

No it's not. When they give everyone left their tribunal and send the Innocent back to their country of origin maybe, but not if they have to imprison the guilty here or in any other place they are not wanted. |

Hey, if Obama's allowed to keep blaming everything on Bush, then I guess Ken can, too.
I would like to know when the statue of limitations is up on that, though - can we still blame things on Clinton for getting us into the mess that Bush got us into?
Or maybe we can blame Carter for getting us into Regan's mess that got us into Bush Sr.'s mess that got us into Clinton's mess that got us into Bush's mess that got us into Obama's mess.
Ooh, even better, we can blame this all on Europe for persecuting the Pilgrims that resulted in the Revolutionary war that resulted in ...
Just how far back are we allowed to go, anyway? Are the dinosaurs to far back? |

I dunno. Sounds like a good deal to me. The next job I get I'm gonna blame all my failures on the guy that had that job before me and see how far I get. I always thought the job started on your first day of work. Since apparently Bush is still in defacto charge perhaps you could tell me when Obummer is going to quit partying on the publics dime and start his first day on the job Ken. Because as I recall Obummer was going to "fix" all those messes Bush allegedly got us into. That's what Obummer kept saying anyhow. I'm surprised that you would want to give Bush such high praise. Claiming that Bush is able to reach out from beyond his presidency and continue to cause the great savior Obummer to fail is kinda out of character for you isn't it?
Now as for Gitmo...How many detainee's is New Zealand taking in being as it is such an enlightened and civilzed country compared to us if you are any example. The issue, which you, as usual have avoided addressing is not about whether or not to close Gitmo but the fact that Obummer couldn't wait to make the announcement that he would close Gitmo almost as soon as he got sworn in but for all his so called "smarts" he obviously didn't stop to give even a moments thought on how he was actually going to do that or what to do with the prisoners. Something many of us kept trying tp point out from the moment he first mentioned it. What's really at issue here is the difference between a niave and dangerously unqualified fellow who can read a speech well but has no idea how to leadand thinks he is still in college vs a true leader with the wisdom and experience to properly carry out the job. Obummer is nothing more than a smooth talking con artist and what we really need is a president who can and will lead. |

I can quite understand your fear of locking up alleged terrorists in a Supermax prison,
but you bought them, you keep them.
