Hello everyone,

I'm running the following on a machine I built myself:

intel p-4 3.06 ghz with HT 533 mhz fsb on a soyo p4x400 dragon utlra platinum edition motherboard
1 gb of kingston ram ddr 400 pc 3200 (2 x 512mb)
ge force fx 5700 le (256 mb) latest drivers installed version 9.1.3.1
120 gb seagate h.d.d. 7200 rpm
19 inch samsung 930B lcd monitor via analog connection
dvd player/burner at 16X
windows xp pro

I'm having the same problem many other people are or have experienced with BF 2. I try to start the game, a black screen appears for a few seconds, then back to the desk top. No errors, etc... I have installed the patch version 1.3 and still the same problem. I have installed and uninstalled the game over 5 times with the same problem still happening.

From what I've read, I think I have a machine that should be capable of playing this game with no problems whatsoever. What's even more strange is that I have Battlefeld Vietnam installed, and it plays that game PERFECTLY. Also, the demo video the Battlefield 2 disk has included DOES play it fine but the actual game won't start up at all.

Anyone have a solution??

Try shutting down all programs running in the background, including Internet security type programs, such as anti-virus, anti-spyware, and even your third-party firewall. Don't forget to check those running in Windows System Tray. Yes, I know this game requires Internet access and that you would be defenseless but the idea is to isolate the possible cause, and then try to find a solution.

Another more drastic suggestion would be to do a reformat and reinstall of Windows to rule out a possible conflict between leftover drivers, or the demo version having a conflict with the full version, or even another application having issues with the game or the copy-protection (i.e., daemon). Backup all your personal data, download all the latest drivers, reformat and reinstall Windows XP, install SP2, all the motherboard drivers, the latest video & audio drivers and then only install BF2 without the patch. Now test BF2.

I had just about same problem. Was wondering if you are trying single player or trying to get on line(Multiplayer)? Single play ( off line) Takes me about 3 minutes to load. But if I turn on modem it loads quicker.
If your trying to play on line you might be having Punk buster problem you can do a search for it down load and update it. Also have heard some people have had to go into Direct X and set there sound configuration to basic. I gave this same suggestion to another post who was having similar problem.
hope it helps.I was wondering did you try running game prior to patch? I could load game fine before patch both on and offline. After patch thats when it started taking so long to load off line.If you did uninstall and reinstall game did you delete Battlefield 2 folder in My Documents? Also I had better luck doing the full patch and not the incremental.

the solution to this problem is really easy just find out the refresh rate of your monitor, if you dont knq how just right click on your desktop hit properties go to settings and advance then go to monitor and check the refresh rate, mine is 61 hz, after that go to my documents go to battlefield 2 folder then profiles then default there is a file called video open it with notepad, and and in the line set resolution set the correct hz that your monitor supports mine looks like this,
VideoSettings.setResolution 1600x1200@61Hz

hope this helps..

Although this post is old, I have the SAME exact problem.

I have:
AMD 3800+
MSI K8N-Neo4
1gb Kingston HyperX
bfg 7900gt

I have JUST recently reformatted my computer. Before the reformat, I was able to play fine. I have patched my bf2 to 1.41. Done what the "solution" was in this thread, but no luck. Any other possible solutions?
