I am looking for software that can backup selected files onto my external HD based on a schedule. On my Windows machine, I have a non-Mac program that does this, and also does differential backups (only does changed files). I like that feature considering I can only store 1-2 full backups.

I am looking for about $30 and under. Any suggestions?

MacBook Pro
OS X v10.4.8

SYNCBACK is GREAT. You can schedule each individual backup you set up, say like 15 minutes apart in the middle of the night, it will take care of it for you and leave you with a message as to overwrites, new, and any failures. It won't stop like for a .dat file, it will just tell you that that one failed.

Edit by seaeagle: Syncback is available from 2BrightSparks: Backup and Synchronization Software. License: $30 - A single user license for SyncBackSE covers its use on up to 5 computers for personal use. Volume licensing for businesses.

I am not sure if you are looking for a Mac solution or a Windows solution but here are my thoughts...

Have you tried using the native ntbackup for windows. I have used it and it works great on a schedule. Unless you are looking at doing full images I can't see why that wouldn't work great, and you can save money by not purchasing a software product.

From what I can see the original poster is looking for Mac OS-X backup software. If anyone knows of something that will do the job, it would be appreciated if they could post here.

I don't own a Mac...yet. These are what I found.
JaBack http://www.hiteksoftware.com/jaba/data-backup-software.htm
BackityMac http://www.whimsplucky.com/whimsplucky/Software/FCE42CDC-64CD-4A4D-93B...5999A31
CarbonCopyCloner http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html

I think the first one is probably what you want - selected files and a backup can be scheduled.
