Hi.
Have just bought a new computer and am going to install my old hard drive as a backup. Is there any way, when I save data etc to my new h/d it can be automatically be saved to the old h/d.
Regards.

Hello,
I am not sure if it is exactly what you are looking for, but Centered Systems' Second Copy does offer to keep the files on one disk volume synchronized with another. Perhaps it will meet your needs.

You really don't say what you have there so it all depends but you COULD, under the right stuff, do a RAID 1 (mirror), I suggest googling on this.
Here is a link to get you started:

If you really want to screw yourself up, beyond all repair, go RAID!
What exactly are you wanting to copy to the old drive?
Documents? Pictures? What?
I synchronize my "My Documents" folder, which includes all my pictures, etc., with a like Folder on my D: drive with a simple batch file using XCopy.
If you wanted to do the backup daily, a simple batch file could be run from your Startup Folder as well as a shortcut on your desktop.
I've always preferred a simple solution over a complicated one, whenever possible. I've found Synchronizing programs to be rather complicated.
I like Simple!
I do have a program called "ViceVersa Pro" which will do file synchronization between two folders or two drives. I believe it was $59.95, but well worth the price, at the time.
With it I can set up "Jobs" to backup different things at different times.
I do use it to synchronize my Utilities directory on my D: drive, with the 4gig Flash Drive I take with me on service calls.
Cheers mate!

| True that if RAID isn't set up & maintained properly, it CAN cause problems. But the question seems (to me anyway) to directly ask this so I'm just answering it. But Doc's warning IS valid. IF this is what you truly intended, make sure you are aware of what is involved & the consequences. I have done raids with no problem but there again I have the training, too. & yes, there ARE other alternatives. Lots, actually, all you need to do is choose. But a more precise description of what your end goal is would help greatly. |

Hi Goretsky.
Have checked out your suggestion and it seems to be exactly what I want. Thanks.
