How many people use RSS auto-discovery? I work at a site where I'm going to have to beg the developers to modify the page-building script to add the tag. Is it worth the hassle to get it done? Does anyone have any statistics on auto-discovery use?
Bloglines supports auto-discovery, and I think many (most?) other aggregators support it as well. Adding the tags takes very little effort, adds almost no extra bandwidth usage, and makes it a lot easier for your users to subscribe to your feeds.
Autodiscovery is something that isn't well supported by most applications. While most aggregators support it, most blogging tools don't generate it correctly. Feedster has an awful lot of logic that does nothing but say "well there's no autodiscovery so let's try A - Z".
Despite this, you're foolish if you don't support autodiscovery. Its minimal effort and huge benefit to your users.
