Clif Notes Newsletter, Feb 2007 http://freewarewiki.com/ClifNotes

"The COOLSITES Newsletter - find the coolest links here. This fella named Mark Donaldson has been sending out his lists of cool sites since 2003. I'd never heard of him before last week. One day I was Googling myself to see who was posting links to my newsletter, and I found his website. I guess he's mentioned my newsletter at least 3 times. I like the COOLSITES website too, but I think it could use some reformatting to make it a bit easier to read. What I really like is the content there. Mark must really read a lot of stuff on the web and he takes the best links then tells you about them ." http://freewarewiki.com/CoolSitesNewsletter

LUEM42's COOLSITES toolbar

Conduit has changed the way they do business and now lets anyone make their own toolbar for IE or Firefox. They make their money on the search function, just like Google, and respect the privacy of the users. I have made a toolbar for my website that has multiple search functions (search Google, search dictionary, search encyclopedia, etc.) has links to my web pages, has a popup blocker/ privacy cleaner, has an email notifier and a weather function. I can add many more functions and when I do everyone who has my toolbar will be automatically updated.

My toolbar can't be used in IE with 98/ME, only IE with 2000/XP, but it can be used with Firefox on 98/ME. I downloaded Firefox (never used it before because I like Opera's built-in download manager) and installed the toolbar extension globally using this command line including the quotes: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -install-global-extension "D:\temp\luem42.xpi". Of course D:\temp\ is the folder where I downloaded the toolbar to. The popup blocker/privacy cleaner doesn't install in Firefox because Firefox has it's own.

So here's the deal. Download and install my toolbar and suggest new functions or changes and I will make them but remember they must be family oriented and I have final approval.

Here is what can be added:

Link Button Link to pages and sites that your users will find useful
(I already have this with links to my webpages but you can suggest links to be added just remember no adult links. Mark)

Button with Menu Create your own customized menu and add your own links

Label Display a permanent label with icon and text

RSS Reader Automatically display standard RSS feeds in your toolbar

Ticker A ticker that displays your message in the toolbar

News Ticker A ticker that is preloaded with the content that you choose

Message Box Communicate with your users through the RSS message box

Chat Chat room for all your toolbar users

Highlighter Add a highlighter to mark words on the current page you are viewing

Radio An online radio in your toolbar

HTML Component (advanced) Add your own components (written in HTML) to your toolbar using our TPI

External Menu Component Add a toolbar button with menu that gets its contents dynamically from your site

Yes I can make money with this toolbar but tens of thousands would have to install it and thousands would have to use it's search feature every day for me to make a couple of dollars a month.

BTW clicking the "COOLSITES" logo on the toolbar will take you to my home page. Mark.

Like I really believe he will

Alec Baldwin told Rosie O'Donnell on "The View" that he is leaving TV and the country. Yeah! Like I really believe that. In 2004 he said he would move to Canada if Bush was reelected. Did he? No. Will he leave a show where he got an Emmy nomination? I don't think so. I'm betting that this is just a ploy to get more money when his contract is renewed. Once a hypocrite always a hypocrite.

Rosie said she's leaving "The View". When she replaced Star Jones I told Dee that she would last only through her one year contract and then leave. I knew she wouldn't get along with those people just like she didn't get along with the people in her show or on her "magazine". She's just too gruff and abrasive and doesn't play well with others. Once a brat always a brat. Mark.

Gotta get this limited time freebie

PKWARE has a new program called SecureZIP which they are giving away free for a limited time. For those that don't know PKWARE invented PKZip and the .zip format which is the most used compression standard. I don't know how long they will give it away free for home use, on a Windows desktop, so get yours now.

My ideal software is small, reliable and easy to use. Small means no bells, whistles, skins, fancy looking buttons, etc.. Small means reliable because there is less to go wrong according to Murphy's Law. Easy to use means I don't have to learn how to use it because it is intuitive. 7-Zip fits these criteria for my archiving needs. Mark.
